Heya guys, I have a 93 dakota with a stock 318, but I also have a 2000 Durango 360. I know I'll need a custom converter to run my stock tranny, but what about wiring and computer issues. What is the easiest and/or best way to do this? Any help would be great! I need all I can get. By the way, I have both computers and both engine harnesses, so i can go either way. Oh, and after the swap, I'll be selling the 318 and stuff, so if anyones interested, im taking offers. Thanks again!

Why not use the 360 converter and flexplate?
Unplug the year 2000 harness and plug the '93 harness in, while noting which sensors'connectors have been changed and then use the appropriate '93 edition. Use an OBDI('92-'95) computer for 360 and it'll plug right into where your 318 computer is now.

because the the flexplate and the converter are not compatable, and the 93 tranny has a different type of torque converter engagement, one is a slot, one is a D style. will I lose power going with the older type computer? the durango is rated higher powered than 92-95 360s, by 15 horsepower, I think?
Thanks guys

You can use your converter and flexplate. You can have weights put on your converter to balance the combo. The weights and instructions only run about $15 from Mopar.

For a computer, your best choice would be a '93 Ram 360 computer if you can get one. A '94 or '95 would also work fine. OBD1 pcm's are generally more performance friendly.

Rewiring your truck for that Durango harness would be more of a hassle than it's worth.

Slot? D style? Huh? If you use the flexplate and TC from the Durango 360 as a pair, it's not an issue. The weights are on the flexplate and the converter is a zero-balance unit. Where you get into trouble is trying to mix and match pre-'96 TC and flexplates with post-'96 TC/plate. The bolt pattern was changed and the weights were moved.

I know, however the input shaft on the 93 tranny is different than the input shaft on 2000 durango, which is why I would just have a custom torque converter made. It would have the front of a 2000 durango, but have the back of a 93 dakota. The local race shop says 250 and it will be completely rebuildable. since autozone wants like 150 for the cheapest one they make, I figure I cant really go to wrong.

Okay, I was out today actually putting the engine in my Dak, when I got ta lookin' at the '89 A500 and 2000 46RE trannys. I see what you mean now about the D-style vs slot. So, why not use an early style TC/flexplate for 360? You're not gonna lose power with an early computer.

because the crank to flexplate bolt pattern is slightly different on the gen 3 360s, however, I will use the early computer. Any thoughts on stock or after market computers anyone? Best place to buy?

Uhhh, no. When swapped as a pair, they are compatible. Mopar requires a sticker be applied when the later combo is used on an earlier unit, such as a warranty repair. The offset pattern was on the torque converter, not the crank. The "little sticker" states that the unit in question is a later unit with 90 degree bolt pattern. So, once again, as long as they are used as a pair, the early TC and flexplate for 360 may be used. Or, the 318 TC/flexplate you have with 360 balance weights added.
