Anyone install one of those Tornado air-swirling inserts to their intake? Does it even work to improve gas mileage?

The tornado is a joke! yea you might see slight gas mileage increase, but it creates a very turbulant air/fuel mix.Dont wast your money on it, its not worth it

My buddy put one in his Ram, he said it sucked and didn't do anything. Don't bother with it, just get a new intake/exhaust combo.

i put it on my 4.7 2002 dodge dak quad cab along with flow master cat back 40 series single to dual with 2 1/2 exhaust amd 4 inch tips along with k&n filter and all 3 made a difference in hp and fuel milage about 4 mpg and had it on dyno before and after and 28 hp gain at 3000 rpm and up entire paskage is about 550 bucks but worth it and it sounds and runs great

Should improve milage about as much as a reastricter plate. Is that what you'd want on your truck ?

I don't have moded exhaust, and I put one in my '95 Dak 5.2L, and it helped a TON with torque. I have the 3:55 differentials, which naturally make it harder to break traction on a dry day. After installing the Tornado, while my mileage hasn't changed, I can break traction even on dry roads. It opened up torque through my whole operating range. Once I get my state return and have that series70 Flowmaster added on, it may be even better.

WONT BRAKE TRACTION ON DRY DAY well there must be something wrong with your truck because my 93 single cab short bed 5.2 will burnem every time. i dont even have to brake it i can punch the gas and leave 10 to 15 feet of rubber. thats on any surface.

Chris, if you have the 3:92 rear-end then that is NORMAL. The 3:55 is all about top-end speed, not power. If you run 3:92 or those 4:5x differentials, you could burn with a 4cyl.

Deno, read my post. I said I noticed no difference in mileage, just torque. If you choose to be ignorant and skim over, then post a reply, your choice. I've removed the Tornado and reinstalled it several times to show the difference to friends, and even they notice it.

'hey S', you can make that comment because you've been inside my truck when? Use some common sense here. I don't have a turbo/super on my engine, nor do I plan on getting one, so while a Tornado probably won't do a THING for an engine as such, it DOES help mine with torque. If you didn't have any luck using one, then it is probably due to another problem in your engine.

You know what's worse? I bet neither of you have ever even bought one of these and given it a chance. You're just posting on what you heard somewhere. While the claims to improving mileage proved false on my engine, it HAS opened up some torque, which is visibly obvious! If you can bark the tires without it, but spin them with it, what does that say? And don't reply saying something is wrong with my engine because it is fine. The Tornado could NOT fix a dang thing to give it more power if something WAS wrong. You guys with the lower-geared differentials may not notice the difference, but it's obvious on mine.

Lucky Motorsports (my local speed shop)dyno tested the tornado on an 01 4.7L. No measurable difference. anyone can claim 1-2 hp gain because it's below the threshold of accurate measurement. You can trust your friends pants seat if you wanna waste your time and money, or you can take the scientific approach and save yourself being made a fool of. Or just lie and insist your right even in the face of dyno numbers. Just don't expect the rest of us to agree with you.

Tn, that shows the lack of knowledge on your part. I'll break this down in simle terms so if anybody wants to say it doesn't work to an extent, they are also saying turbos don't do anything.

Now, as you should know, a turbo spins air and forces into the engine fast as heck. Air that is spinning can twist around rounded corners and such easier than under normal circumstances. Since it reaches the chambers sooner, and with a turbo, faster, you get better attomization right off bat. That's as far as I'll go with the turbo lesson.

Now, the Tornado does not force air into your engine, but it DOES cause it to spin. Now, on a standard TBI engine you lose some of this when you enter the two or four-barrel, but some remains. However, on an EFI engine where there is no two-barrel, it helps TONS. So yeah, while it may not be a big step on a truck like mine, it can vastly improve performance on a non-turbo EFi engine.

As for my friends, you didn't read the post clearly. I've removed it from my engine and driven around with a friend, then put it in and driven more. There is a slight difference in take-off power, and really more throughout the whole range. No, it doesn't give me 400hp. It does not gain me even 1mpg efficiency. It does not make sounds, cause problems, or cause any major performance increases. However, it HAS done what it claimed.

Remember, your '01 4.7 is NOT setup like mine. Unless I am mistaken, your air-filter is NOT right on top of the two-barrel. Mine ***IS***. This is why I may notice a difference where you don't. If you have one of those tiny Tornados that goes into the air-line behind the air-filter that sits in a box, it's useless. Look at what it has to go through before it ever even reaches the two/four-barrel!! It spins the air, but it doesn't make a dang if by the time it gets to the intake the air has stopped spinning. Since my Tornado literally sits on top of the two-barrel, it spins the air right into the engine.

So now you know how it can help, and if you say BS, you're saying a turbo is useless as well. I *DO* agree with you that on newer TBI engines that do not feature the air-filter right over the carb, the Tornado is utterly useless. However, it is a big help on EFI engines, and a slight help on engines like mine. If you do not understand what I mean by my Tornado/air-filter sitting on top of the carb, I will take a picture and post it for you. Then you will see the major difference in your 4.7 and my 5.2, along with why it DOES help me. Remember, I am Gen2, NOT Gen3!

Well I had to take my tornado out. Too much g forces for me. I can't afford to be blacking out into oncoming traffic. Plus it tore my transmission and rear end all to $hit from all the extra torque.
