Just a post to share a + buying and installation experience.

A couple weeks ago I was asking about what belt/tensioner to buy for my 318, (it might have been in the General Forum though). Gates seemed to be the most respected. Prices were very high locally, including NAPA. I found a place that was cheap, online. Not trusting their site, I called their cust. svc. number to see if there were live bodies - yes! Tensioner #38116 for $54.03 and belt #K070975 for $29.29. This was with free shipping and a $3 handling fee. They arrived timely and I just installed them. The place was autopartsgiant.com

Installation of the tensioner isn't bad at all. I used an "S" shaped phillips head screwdriver to remove the two screws holding the coil onto the tensioner bracket. If you don't use something short like this, you will have to remove the damn airbox, (at least for my 99). This gave me easy access to the 15mm nut that holds the tensioner onto its bracket. The old one popped out and the new one popped right on in. For the hell of it, I used some blue Locktite on the threads prior to replacing the 15mm nut. There's no lockwasher or nylock nut, so I just felt better using a dab of blue on it. The coil went right back on.

Doing the belt, I found it easiest to do the lowest pully first and then all other pullies except the one to the right of the tensioner (can't remember offhand which that is right now). Otherwise, if I tried to do the tensioner last, it was tough to get the wrench through the belt and then not run into the fan with the wrench when pulling. My way, I put the wrench low on the tensioner pulley nut and pulled up while coaxing the belt over the aforementioned pulley.

I unplugged the high tension lead on the coil and turned the motor over with the key a few times. A quick check showed all was good. I reconnected the lead and fired the bitch up! Ahh no more squeal :-)

I hope this helps someone about to do this job themselves :-)

P.S. Just to make sure it's clear, I have NO/NONE/ZIP/NADA affiliation with any company I mentioned. I'm just a DIY guy sharing some buying/installing tips to make another owner happy. WKS
