Subject: Cherokee and Dakota 4.7??
IP: Logged

Message:
What are the similarities between the 4.7 in the Dakota and the 4.7 in the newer Jeep Grand Cherokee's? The reason I ask is that there isnt a great deal of performance mods out for my Cherokee but would like to beef it up a bit in the HP dept. Any advice would be appreciated.

Same motor. Your best mod is to change the cams.

I far as I *know* The 4.7 in the jeep is the same. My friend has one and it seems to be the same engin. The only diferance that I knwo on is that his grand cher. has a HO engin in it and that means it already has the cams and intake.

So If you are going to do cams you will need to get some larger KRC ones probably.

Unless you don;t have the H.O. :P

Always Thankfull,
Ben J.

Yep, KRC is the ONLY place I found any worthwhile performance parts for the 4.7L. Of course I started with the Dodge cams instead of Jeeps HO's, but still. No one else offered anything to increase power other than a K&N filter.

Excellent guys, I forgot about KRC. BTW, my engine is the HO rated at 265hp. So I guess it has the cams already. I was thinking maybe a throttle body, intake, and headers if I can find a set with the right clearances.

The Jeep HO also has knock sensors and 9.7:1 pistons. The factory exhaust manifolds were designed to flow within 2 percent of headers.

01, thats cool nobody makes headers for it anyways. I'd have to get a set custom bent and dont really feel like spending that much money for 10hp

MikeS what year is your WJ? You need to go here and read up on your engine. There are significant differences: http://www.wjjeeps.com/engine.htm
Your engine has a serious head start in the horsepower & torque race. I don't think you want to spend big dollars and do a lot of work for little gain or getting a horsepower increase near redline while losing low end torque. Especially if you have Quadra Trac II or Quadra Drive. I personally recommend a K&N FIPK or equivalent,a good cat-back like the Dynomax Ultraflo and I've heard nothing but praise for the Fastman throttle body. If your looking for lot's of power and have a big budget, you may want to look into a Kenne Bell supercharger. The K&N and Ultraflo will give you modest power increases you can feel with the butt dyno but, nothing to write home about. The K&N will make your exhaust louder but, surprisingly the Ultraflo won't add significant DBs to your exhaust despite being a larger straight through design.
