My dakota has 120 000 miles and has run great since the first day aside from multiple ball joint and front end work. That is till now I have had several problems and the latest one which stiffles me. The engine runs great for the first half hour of travel then develops a miss, sounds like spark knocking. It'll stay running when enough gas is applied but won't idle by itself, it'll have a 3-5 minute session then run great again for a lil while. The check engine light comes on not sure how to retrieve the info. Does anyone know how and where to get the info on-line.
Also the truck has new cap, rotor, plugs, wires and O2 sensors.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

turn the ignition on and off three times and on the third time look at the odometer. Dont actually start the motor doing this. Post the code you get and I'll look it up in my manual for you.

Reading your posts and I tried what you said to see if it gave me a code. I got P0340, I have been seeing a check engine light on and off for a month and it just yesterday wouldn't start. I left it sitting overnight, returned to tow it to the Dodge dealer and it started right up. Changed the PCV valve but no luck. Can you tell me what the code reads?

Code P0340 is Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction. The dealer should have figured this out as soon as they scaned it. Let them know exactly what it is so they dont try and jerk you around claiming it might be other things so they can pad the bill. I dont have any idea where its located on your motor but maybe someone else will and they will know how much it costs. I hope its not to bad or that your truck is still under waranty. Good Luck.
