I have an 89' 318 that has been running poorly. IT idles roughly, stalls at stops, but seems to run allright at higher speeds. Sometimes it runs better, sometimes worse. It seems to run better when its really cold. It even sounds like when i rev it that its overreving or possibly not running on all cylinders. I just replaced the EGR valve. I was thinkning possibly TPS, pickup coil or I.A.C. Some assistance with this matter would be greatly appreciated.

I had similar problems until I changed the ECM Module. If everything else seems to be in order (was in my case) that may do it. $200.00 + core from the dealer.

I almost brok out laughing reading this, then wanted to cry... if you check out V6 dakotas forum under 92 3.9 stall and backfire... Eva there is about four pages of the same symptomology, but worse in the cold, and worse at higher speeds. At any rate there is a lot of advice as to what to check... however I still have not solved my problem, but it may give you some good leads.

Good Luck

Start with O2 sensor, then MAP sensor. Has it has a tune-up lately?

Thanks for the advice! I will try an o2 sensor. I changed my pickup coil and now it wont start at all. Is it at all possible that the bolts taht go through the coil are a ground?
