Subject: Transmission Problems?
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a '99 Dakota 5.2L SLT 4X4. For about a year now I have been fighting with the transmission. On a regular basis when I first start the truck the Check Engine light will come on (Code 1762 Governor Pressure Sensor) and the truck will start out in second gear. I also hear a speed sensitive squeak when the truck is still cold. After reviewing this site I see I'm not alone.

I took it to a transmission shop and they replaced the Governor Pressure Sensor and Solenoid. This did not fix my problem! I then took it to a wiring shop where they found a corroded wire in the harness. They repaired that wire and I was trouble free for a short while.

The problem is back again; the wiring shop has verified 5 Volts to the GPS but no voltage out? (aka wiring harness is ok) They say the GPS is bad but it was just replaced about 6 months ago? The warranty on the work the tranny shop did is out now.

My question is if there is anything else that could be causing the GPS to go bad so quickly? I'm willing to replace the GPS and Solenoid again myself after reading this site if needed but I don't really want to do it every 6 months! Or am I looking at a complete rebuild?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm at my wits end.

I'd try a good flushing before replacement. These selenoids are prone to faulty behavior when they get a little trash in them, and will present an error code indicating failure, when they're still good, just clogged. Worth a shot, at least.

Is this something I can do myself or does it need to go on a bench? I don't have a problem draining the system and cleaning them up. I guess I just don't know if this is something the shop needs to do? Thanks for the advice!
