Last couple tanks have been 14s. Looking like things are moving up, from mid 11s, to mid 12s, to mid 13s, and now consistent 14s with a 60/40 highyway/city mix. I was fine no matter what but consistent 15mpg with the power of the 4.7 would make me extra happy.

Just bought a 2004 - Dakota 4x4,club cab,4.7,auto tran and I am getting 15.8 in the city and 17-18 Hwy. But that changes if there is alot of wind. Need to put a cover on the back. I have no complaints on mpg - I knew when I bought it, that it would be lower. My 97 club cab, 3.9, 4x4 was about 3 mpg better on both, but it was a dog on acceleration and worse with towing. With the 4.7 I could not be happier - I have better power and it towes much better. I have noticed that I need to run 87 in it for better mpg - the ethonal here is 89 and I get a 2-3 mpg drop on both city/hwy.

Just returned from our trip to the AdironDAKS. Traveled 768.7 miles on 41.6 gallons of fuel. 18.47/gal. About 250 miles of snow covered roads at about 40 mph and 500 miles of thruway and interstate at 65+ mph. Lots of elevation including a 6 mile hill thru the cascades outside of Lake Placid. Pulled the hill in 4th with power to spare. 2004, 4.7L, 5sp manual, 3.55 posi.
Club Cab 4100 miles.

Here's my list:
1968 Charger, 383HP 4BBL Maganum, 10 city, 17 hwy
1989 D150, 318ci, 13 city, 17hwy
1992 Dak Xcab 4X4, 318ci, 13 city, 16hwy
1993 Dak Xcab, 318 auto, 14 city, 17 hwy
1993 Caprice Classic, 305ci, 19 city, 24 hwy
1993 Taurus SHO, 3.0L, 5spd, 19 city, 24 hwy
1994 Dak Xcab, 318 auto, 14 city, 19 hwy
1995 Ram Xcab, 360ci auto, 13 city 15.5 hwy
1998 Dak Xcab R/T, 360 auto, 13 city, 19 hwy
2001 Dak RC, 3.9L V6 Auto, 14.5 city 18 hwy
2002 Dak RC, 4.7L v8 auto, 15 city 19.5 hwy
2000 Dak Xcab R/T, 360 auto, 13 city 17 hwy

As you can see the best mileage was from a Chevy and it weighs more than my 2002 Dakota and has a bigger engine than my 2002 Dakota. But, my Dakota will blow it's doors off. Notice that my 2002 4.7L auto got better gas mileage in town and on the highway than the 2001 3.9l V6 Dakota. Go Figure!

I just picked up my 04 Dakota Quad cab 4.7l 5 spd auto. I dont know the gas milage so far. When i looked at this truck i said v8 no way i drive 120 miles a day minimum. Most of you told me the v6 wasnt much different. Well in looking at the stickers in the dealership the milage was about 1 more mile to the gallon highway. The funny thing is i looke at the sticker to my Jeep Wrangler Se 2000 with a 4 clylinder 3spd auto and it got 1mile to the gallon more than my dakota. In actuall milage i am sure the dakota will prove much better because i had to slam the gas pedal to get the jeep moving and almost got killed evertime i got on the highway. Now i have to watch my foot so i dont light up the tires. I can now get into the fast lane to pass cars and not have to worry about anyone running me over. I am going to wait to check my gas milage until my foot gets tuned to the v8.

Hey eddy what did you do to get your truck to start improving it's mileage. I have been out of the dak loop for a while and was wondering what you did .
