Subject: Oil Change Interval

YES, another oil change question. I am the opposite of most of you guys, as I take public transportaion, and put on usually 6000 miles a year. In July I bought an 03 Dakota QC, 4.7, 355 grears, 4X4. I use Mobil one, always have, always will, but quite expensive changing it every 3 months with only 1500 miles on it since the last oil change. Suggestions? I want to maintain the warranty, although I have never had problems. My other Dodge, a 92 Ramcharger, had 150,000 miles on it, and purred like a kitten, and that truck plowed snow every year since new.

Thanks,
Ken

I think you could easily go longer, but what are you comparing the costs to (saying it's expensive)? You probably save a lot more money than most of us do by not having to buy near as much gas, tires last longer, etc.

I think you could change your oil every month with Mobil One and still not come close to the cost of driving my Dodge demands.

Hey, I'm just sayin'

Ken,
One of the benefits of running synthetic is that you can extend your change interval. You could easily extend to 6 months and 3,000 miles and that is probably conservative. I drive about 4,000 miles in 6 months and have gone to this schedule. I'm confident that I'm not hurting anything on my truck. I used to be a 3 month changer too but got over it. Now I only have to get dirty under the truck twice a year instead of 4 times a year!
