Subject: water level in radiator is always low?

I have a 2000 Ram 1500 4x4 ex cab 5.2L with 70,000 mi. Every time I check the water level in my radiator it is low, and the resevoir is empty. I Look every where I go and it never is leaking any on the ground. The oil is not cloudy so to suspect a blown head gasket or the such. It never overheats also. I went to check the anti-freeze level with one of thoes meters. I stuck the 6" hose in the radiator and could not suck out any water! I added 1/2 gallon of anti- freeze and a pitcher of water to top it off. Any idea if other dodges have the same problem. Where does the water go? Is it a problem or does it just do down a ways and then stop? Thanks Chad

You might check the radiator cap. It is supposed to raise the pressure in the radiator so the water boils at a higher temperature. If it is not holding the proper pressure the radiator water will boil at too low a temperature which could account for your loss of coolant.

i called dodge they said that they have been seeing the thermostat housing leaking, and it is right on the block. They said the reason you don't see and fluid leak is b/c it leaks real slow and evaporates before you can see it. I looked around the thermostat housing and sure enough it has a green funk that looks recently wet. Everyone else might go check and see if theirs is the same.

Another thing that you might want to look into is u might want to go to a local garage or auto shop and ask them to thow a pressure tester on it that helps the coolant to rise in pressure so that you can find leaks better. also i had that same problem with my 5.9 r/t and it turned out to be the head gasket was blown but its really all about the guessing game right now any more questions e-mail me at rcdan14@hotmail.com

You may have a pin hole leak in the heater core. I had same problem last month. Had a slight odor in the cab with heat on. Replace heater core and no problems now. Cost $810. Very labor intensive.
