Ok can someone tell me how to change the oil on my 2000 4.7 CC? I went to do it today, and found there was so much sh*t in the way oil was going to go everywhere. I was gonna use a soda bottle like someone had suggested on here to take off the filter. I never got the stud for the pan out b/c I didn't know whether to remove the whole skid plate or what. I can't freaking believe this thing. Why is it so complicated to do something so easy??

there is a kit they sell at any good auto parts store that replaces the stock drain bolt and changes it to a quick disconnect. the kit has a hose you connect to the new connector that goes below the skid plate and drains into your container of choice. true the first change will be messy, but less so if you drop the skid plate. but use the 2 liter bottle for the filter.

Ok thanks, that's what I had actually thought about too. Now when I use the soda bottle, I just put the wrench in the bottle and feed the extension through the neck? That's what I was figuring to do. I might take it over to my mechanic and have them give me a hand since he's a family friend.

Break the filter loose first, then put the cut-up soda bottle over the filter (cap on ;-) and remove the filter. For the drain plug, do some combination of the following:

o remove the skid plate
o as discussed above, install the Sure-Drain
o make a splash guard out of a soda bottle, milk jug, newspaper, etc. to guide the oil into the pan and not the skid plate.

Getting oil in the skid plate sucks. I did that and it dripped oil for weeks,,, as I wasn't smart enough to pull the plate and clean it right away.

SO loosen the filter with the wrench to the point where I can take it off by hand, then pop the soda bottle over it and finish taking it off? And yea, I'm definetly thinking the sure drain is the way to go. Does anyone know what the skid plate bolts into? I found all the mounting bolts for it, but my dad was sayin to watch before I fool around with body parts, they don't always go back on properly.

Just to share a couple of things.
I have a NEW 04 4.7 cc and had to go to the dealer to get the oil /fill cap off.!!! nuts O!
it nither screws off nor pulls off.
its kida like a lid to a jar with groves to line up, the has a couple of threds, so be careful
The service manager at 6/6 about 250lbs did get it off, LOL! when you do , replace it genly, for the next round. insane for brand new hugh!

Almost the same for the oil filter!, save the time and pain!. remove the plastic shroud from undernieth first, use a good filter wrench
mine was vice grip wide mouth, it was almost
to much, but my friend and i finly got it
replace with just hand tighting+ LOL!
insane for brand new hugh!

Jeremy, yes, loosen until hand loose, then put the bottle over the top and finish removing.

For the plates, on my 02, there are 2 skid plates and 6 bolts -> 2 front, 2 middle (the 2 plates come together here and share these 2 bolts), and 2 in the rear (...sounds painful :-). The plates are not difficult to remove and put back on. I'm too lazy though to remove the plate at each oil change, hence the splash guard.

richard, I also had the over-tightened oil filter the first time. After jacking with it for a while, and just prior to over-committing myself by sticking a screwdriver through the filter, I said screw it and took it to the dealer. I gave them the new filter and told them to change it since it was over-tightened. No charge of course.

Thanks everyone. Yea, I'm gonna do the soda bottle thing and prolly install one of those sure drain plugs. They work well? I figure this will make it easy the next time I gotta change it. Now I just need to find some time.
