I recently purchased the MSD replacement coil and the accel wiring harness to make it fit my 1998 5.2L. Anyhow, will I need to regap my spark-plugs? If I don't NEED to, will it still be a good idea to widen the gap? If so, what should I set the gap at?

Thanks for the help! I tried doing a search, but all I could find was people talking about the MSD-6A system, which I'm just installing the coil without the entire system.

Can't wait to get th coil and my new Edelbrock headers installed!

If all you have is an aftermarket coil I probably wouldn't open the gap on the plugs yet. However, once you do purchase the 6AL, the instructions in the box say that you can open the gap of your plugs to achieve a bigger spark kernel and theoretically more energy. I've run similar "spark boxes" on all my vehicles and have opened up the gap accordingly. I believe on my Dakota the stock plug gap is .035 and I have moved them up to .040 with good results. Good luck sounds like a mean truck.

Just buy the boch platium 2 plugs, they are 4 bucks each, but it is worth it, they help gas milage and are about the best on the market, you don't need to gap them because of the way they are designed (two horisontal tips instead of one vertical tip)
