Subject: Where the heck is the t-stat?
IP: Logged

Message:
I hope this doesn't sound like a stupid question, but I need to ask it before I go ripping into my truck. I'm replacing the t-stat with a 180. On the 4.7L, where the heck is it? On the upper radiator hose, there is some kind of threaded spacer that connects to a cast tube that goes in front of the engine behind everything. Is the t-stat located where the threaded connector is? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks :)

The t-stat is located on the lower radiator hose. If you are standing looking at the motor, it would be on the lower left side of the radiator. To access it you have to remove the giant plastic deal under the bumper. Then it is 2 8mm bolts to loosen the thermostat housing. good luck

from the front of the truck the thermostat is on the lower passenger side of the radiator....only two 10mm bolts easy sqwitch out...probably will need to notch thermostat for o ring fitting...be sure to add lost coolant to the radiator filler port and not into the resivoir......

Thanks!! I didn't even think of looking on the lower radiator hose. CaribbeanKota, what do you mean about notching the thermostat for the "o" ring to fit?

you will notice when you remove the white o ring off of the stock t stat that 1 the theromstat has a little notch in it 2 the white o ring has a little tit on the inside ...i notched my new thermostat with a bench grinder and have had no leaks....P.S. I think crusty is right it is a 8mm socket you'll use

I never notched either of my 4.7 t-stats. I have installed 2 in each of my trucks and never had a leak. It is a good idea though.

Thanks a lot!! I'm going to give it a shot next weekend, hopefully the weather will cooperate. This past week has been to cold to do anything.
