Hello all, I have a 96 Dakota 4 wheel drive with the 318, it is the extended cab version. I have a vibration I can't track down. The vibration sarts around 60 mph and doesn't go away, you don't feel it thru the steering wheel. I took it to my neihborhood shop and they found the rear drive shaft was slightly bent, they had a new one made and it didn't change a thing. next all the wheels were checked and 2 are very slightly bent, the shop put those on the back thinking they weren't bad enough to cause this. The shop feels the vibration is in or near the front. next they took out the front drive shaft and drove it. still had the vibration. next they pulled the axle shafts out of the front end to check for wear, they didn't find anything unusual. I took the truck back and drove it to vermont and back from CT. 180 miles each way. at the begining of the trip, the first 15 minuits of highway driving at 75+ mph I thought I should turn around and go home, but then thought lets see what happens. the vibration lessened after that. I think when the truck got good and hot at 80mph something must have tightened up. since then it has been the same. not getting worse or better. Also the dakota has 94000 miles on it. I have heard from a fellow who said to check, the torque converter and the rear transfer case bearing. I dobn't think its the torque converter because I took it down the highway with the over drive off and see it does it at the same road speed, engine speed doesn't seem to matter. I then slipped it into nuetral and coasted, it still vibrates at that speed. Any ideas? I have only owned this truck for about 4 months and it has always done this

Ok, I have 2 things for you to check out. Those tires and rims, have they been balanced recently? Do they have any irregular wear patterns? Have you rotated them? How bent are they?

Have you replaced your shocks?
