Subject: Superchip opinons anyone?

Had a jetchip in my last truck. Now the only thing I can find for my 03 V8 is a superchips programmer. Hypertech does not have one and jetchip has no chips yet.
Anyone use a superchips tuner before? I found onw for 290 and was wondering how the perform by people who used them firsthand. Thanks.

Just my $.02 but I wouldn't mess with a brand new engine.

Sean,
I have and use a SuperChips programmer for my '00 QuadCab with a 5.9 and am happy with it. I paid $285 on a group buy, so your quoted price is decent. I figure the extra money I pay for high test is about a wash with the fuel economy improvement, but the increase in 'go' is worth the money spent.

I improved my towing fuel economy 20% (from 10 to 12 mpg) and towing was much easier on the truck. (Based upon a 750 mile trip earlier this year without compaired to a 950 mile trip with programmer, and 'worse' towing conditions).

My trip to Central Oregon from Portland area and back yesterday was 18.4 overall with the return trip being 19.1 mpg. That is going over the side or Mt. Hood and round trip of 320 miles. I generally get 16-17 mpg.

BadMoFo has a good point with messing with a new engine, but I think that would be with regard to internal playing. I added a 3" cat back, AirAid cold air induction system and FastMan Throttle Body-all 'hang-ons' within the first year I had my rig and have been glad I did so. My only goof was an M-1, which I removed after a few thousand miles. It is great for 3,000 rpm and up, but I don't run my rig that way. I now have a FastMan prepped non-EGR M-1 intake sitting on my workbench and the original beerkeg back on the truck. While the SuperChips programmer should reclaim the low-end Torque loss I experienced with the M-1, I'm unwilling to spend the money to experiment.

Plan your mods to work with each other, even if they will not be done at the same time. 'Proper prior planning prevents pi$$ poor performance' is a valid axiom.

Enjoy,...D
