Have the same truck with the 5 speed automatic and average around 16 mpg running up and down the hills in western MA. Rpm's run between 1000 and 1500 at 55 mph.

2001 5.9L QC 4x4. Auto w/ OD.
My last tank = 14.63 MPG. (Don't go by the over head computer if you have it, its close but not 100% correct)

Sounds like you have issues tho.

Tha't about all I get with mine (2003 QC 4X4, 4.7) too. With 12K miles, I've been averaging about 15.9 on the hwy at 70. In town about 12.5 - 13.5. Gas mileage has got a little better as the miles increase. GOing to full synthetics in the tranny and diffs as the forum recommends to help the mileage.

Well, I notied a slight increase when I got my auto flushed out and filled back up with Mopar Trans.fluid. I just wonder is that the same as Valvoline? Thats also the type of motor oil I'm currently using, and it hasn't ran black now that I'm about 2,000 miles over.

Perry,

I'm in the same B.S with my auto as you. But I got a older type tranny (46RH) you got the new generation 45RFE mulitspeed auto. They are not surposed to have the same problems of the older hydrolic auto's. Now that I'm using Lucas transmission treatment. It dosn't hang in second like it use to. also the shift points are smoothed a bit.

I get 13 MPG city or hwy towing with my '02 QC 4.7l auto w/3.92 rear-end. It shifts fine... just gets sucky mileage. Dodge claims 14-19 - HA! that will be the day.
