Not sure if you guys have gotten sick of seeing methods for a home brew intake on the 4.7L, but here is mine.

http://home.earthlink.net/~qwikkota/images/intake1.JPG

Basically a 3 1/2" ID K&N, section of 3" PVC, 3" 90 elbow, and another section of 3" PVC pipe. Connects to throttle body with a 3" rubber 90. Fits around the TB just fine, clamp down to seal. The rubber 90 is the most expensive piece and hardest to find, other than the K&N of course. Its about $11 at Lowes, not sure if all stores carry them. I even have a sprinkler fitting on the underside for connection to the PCV piping.

Feel free to comment on my Jerry Rigging.

Nice work but that stuff belongs in a house. In the future you should look into buying a real cold air system for your truck. It's worth it.

I did exactly the same setup on my '01 CC, except painted it red to match my truck.

Joey, some of us family guys putting kids through college, etc., don't have hundreds of bucks for non-essentials, but want to do something to dress up ours rigs. Give us a break.

Gay, try pulling a 26' camper with your R/t.

I remember reading something about PVC NOT being good for an intake due to outgassing or something? The workmanship looks good.

OK - to start, I'm not trying to start a flame war or be a smartass or anything like that. That being said, what exactly is wrong with the stock intake? Doesn't seem too restrictive; brings in cold air from the fenderwell; has a very good flowrate capability with the stock filter. I'm just missing the point I guess. I would think there could be some other modifications that would be much more worthwhile. I just can't really see how this modified intake set-up can be any more (or less) efficient than the stock set-up (except for the oiled filter that lets in massive amounts of dirt -- no thanks).

Quik,

Nice work, I also used a fernco to my TB, so it'll tighten up and flex a bit.

Now, Where is the air damn keepin the motor hot air away?

Jes, For sure, the stock set up dynos with the best of 'em.

For one it's not PVC, he used ABS which as far as I am concerned is safeand worked great for me.

Not only did I decide NOT to spend hundreds on a "cold air intake" from an online scammer, it doesn't work any better or even as good as a home brewed does!

People who buy a tube with the filter on the end for over $100 are suckers. Especially if you spent over $200!!!! That's insane!

Just do yourself a favor and get the air from outside of the engine compartment. Mines behind the foglight and has so far been safe from water, mud and road debris!

I used the exact same setup and it worked quite well until it got real warm out, then I had a problem. It first happened at the track when the 90^ rubber elbow (fernco) actually collapsed shut under WOT, causing the engine to die from not getting any air.

Just keep that in mind. To fix that problem, I just picked up another 90^ PCV piece and a fernco adapter and it worked fine after that.

FWIW, I tested that exact setup on the dyno. The gains were 3hp and 4lb/ft TQ over the stock airbox. I'll have to dig out the dyno sheets and scan them in.

CTMopar, you used a rubber 90 degree elbow? Was that your connection to the throttle body?
I was just curious. I'm not sure what the material is you had problems with.
What I used was all ABS and a 3 inch "no hub" rubber connector to the throttle body.
That rubber "no hub" is some thick, thick sh*t and it would never colapse.

I got all the parts at home depo or Lowes.

That's cool that it was dyno'ed. All I can tell is maybe the same torque and a little more above 3000 RPM's especially when it shifts.
What I noticed the most was a harder shift.
