I wonder if people might tend to over oil when they put the oil on the filter ? Just need enough to see the color, don't want to overdo it. Not saying you did anything wrong; but I suspect that's where some of the problem reputation comes from. I've run K&N on quite a few vehicles and motorcycles for many years, no trouble.

Being a 2-stroke 'dirt biker' for many years, oiled filters on bikes are a MUST. Oiled filter on new modern engines could cause problems with sensors.
I'm sure the problems are few or K&N wouldn't be selling so many.
Anyone one want to buy a cold air kit for a 4.7?
