whats the deal with the cat on my 4.7? Can I just cut it off and run a straight pipe in its place? Any suggestions or hints?

In Massachusetts you cannot pass state inspection and get your sticker without a good working catalytic converter

Yes you can, Vic ! In Mass and many other states, testing will now be done at the obdii port instead of the tailpipe for newer vehicles such as the 4.7 Dak. Tester will verify mil light comes on then goes out as vehicle is started, then you're all set unless machine prompts them to test your vehicle. Then they'll plug into that port and look for a functional system with a complete drive cycle (not just recently reset). As long as the mil light doesn't stay lit, you're fine. Happy motoring !
