 Subject: Distributor cause power loss under load?

Has anyone had any problems with Distributor wear? If so did it cause power loss under load? eg. (Uphill climbs and towing) My local dealer tells me that the dist. around my year model had problems with wearing out. I have a 94 318 5 spd. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. OH! also have about a 50 rpm surge at idle. Thanks in advance!

I had a very similar problem i ran the gammet of
tests it turned out the idle air control valve
failed and was locked up. I replaced it around
50 bucks. Works fine for 1000 miles and counting
