Subject: ABS & Brake lights wont go off!

My ABS and Brake (parking brake) lights wont go off. All I did was just start my truck up one morning and the lights appeared on and wont go off. Does anyone know what this might be? Could I need new brakes because my brakes tend to make loud ass noises sometimes. Any help would be great! Thanks,

-Matt

How old is your battery? I had a Gen II that would do that just before the battery went out. No such luck with my Gen III, it just doesn't start.

The overall condition of brake shoes and pads will not cause those lamps to come on. Most likely, you have a failing speed sensor, but don't forget, guessing can cost you lots of money. Have it diagnosed.

Check to see if your parking brake cables are maybe a little seized. Sometimes one side will be and cause a "drag" on that tire. this will sett off your abs light cuz the sensor is getting a weird reading form one tire compared to the other. I had the same problem.

The combination of both the brake & ABS lights lead me to believe its a speed sensor. Seen this happen several times on different types of cars.

same thing was happening on my 99 r/t, it came on one day while i was driving, so i turned off the truck, and the light disappeared. bout 5 minutes later it came back on, and wouldnt turn off. i was told it was the speed sensor as well (by some people who were having the same issue), but i resetted the comp and it hasnt happened since. good luck

I agree with rt13, reset the comp before spending the money. If your speedometer starts to fail my money is on the speed sensor in the axle, right side.
