M.H. Sr, I'm sure that if there would be body changes for the 04' dak, DC would have announced it by now. Then again you never know. But, I hear that the next gen dak will show up in 05'.

New body style in 2005.For 2004 5.9L is gone.Most likely the RT is also.Future perf models probably will be SRT somethings.Good news is no more 3.9L's,replaced with the 3.7L from the Jeep Liberty.At least a 35 horsepower (210)increase,probably closer to 45-50 and better fuel economy.

Dern, I really liked the 4.0 in my '98 Cherokee, Dang that sucker would run liked a scalded ape! I used & abused it for 178,000 miles before my wife flipped the poor thing. Wish they would go back to the I6.

To take a guess at the next Dakota, not necessarily the 2004, but whenever the next Dakota comes out.....

Trim Levels:
SXT
Sport
SLT
R/T
I think they will drop the "Plus" on each and just offer what was the "Plus" label as some sort of package.

Models:
4x2 in all trims
4x4 in all trims but R/T
All models except for the R/T will be available as either a Quad Cab or Regular Cab.
Deletion of the Club Cab model in the new Dakotas.
Also think that like the Ram, the Quad Cab will be designed in a way to keep at least a 6 foot bed instead of 5'3".

Engines:
4x2 --> 3.7 V6, 4.7 V8, 5.7 Hemi in R/T only
4x4 --> 3.7 V6, 4.7 V8, 5.7 Hemi optional in Quad Cab only.

5spd auto only in R/T and Quad Cab Hemi.
5spd HD Manual or 5spd Auto available for everything else.

It would be nice to see the 4.7 HO sometime in the near future. I would definately trade in the old 96' 318 for something with that kind of power. Even though the 4.7 has more base horsepower than the 5.2 (by like 10 or something in the reg cab models); I think 230 is still very weak for that sized engine in today's standards.

THE FACT IS, THEY COULD THINK THEY GOT IT ALL FIGURED OUT BUT THE DAY BEFORE THEY ARE GOING TO RELEASE IT, THEY COULD THINK OF SOMETHING ELSE. THATS JUST THE WAY THE CAR BUISNESS IS AND WE ALL GET TO LIVE WITH IT. AS FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO WANT A POWER WAGON GO OUT AND BUY A BIG RIG AND QUIT CRYING ABOUT THE ONE YOU GOT.
