Well, I finally got what I wanted...err what I needed...err what I have always wanted....a V8 truck.

Story....had to settle for an 02 SXT V6 CC 4x4 AUTO when I got my truck last year. Since then I have been kind of bummed, it was my first new car/truck but I did not have the $$$ to get what I truly wanted.

Just today I got a 2003 4x4 Sport QC with the 4.7 V8 and a 5-speed. Has the 3.55s which are OK with me for now as I can go to 3.92s if ever needed. Ended up getting 17k for my 6er which had 21k miles on it and I owed 18,700 on it. With all the incentives, etc, I got the truck for $469/month for 60months.

Options:
Cruise/Tilt
Power heated mirrors
Power windows/locks
Keyless entry
CD player with Changer Controls
Tow Package with Class IV and 7-pin wiring
Overhead convenience group

Probably missed a few options, but anyway, I was already at $400/month same terms on the 6er club cab so I am very happy with the upgrade. Wish I did not have to go with the SXT first but one of life's little lessons.

Only thing I did not like was the 245s for the tires, so since mine were not bad, I asked them to switch my 265s to the new Dakota and they did. Also was able to get mud flaps, nerf bars, and floor mats thrown in.

So....I am looking forward to mods and having fun with the Dak I really wanted. Any good information for a first-time 4.7 owner would be greatly appreciated.

He didn't get burned. Maybe you have Dakota envy...

Since he has a stick he can use the engine/tranny for deceleration to keep from overheating his front pads and rotors. He shouldn't experience the "warped rotor" syndrome many people b%tch about. I have lots of miles left on my pads. It's amazing how long they last when the brakes don't have to fight the engine to bring a vehicle to a stop.

Since he has a 5-speed stick he can expect to get good gas mileage for a truck, I get 16-to-17 (an more) in all but heavy load situations.

Since he has a 230HP v8, towing and all other driving will not be under powered.

I am thoroughly please with my truck. I have only needed to have an incorrectly hung door corrected (the factory QA missed this), and just got the A/C blowing cold again (the A/C controller needed reprogramming, ???).

My only "complaint" is the miles roll up too easy. I have almost 24K on after owning it 11.5 months.

I say you made a good purchase (this time, not rubbing it in) and you will really be glad you have a v8 now. I test drove a v6 and from that I knew I didn't want one. After towing 5,000# with my truck I am *really* glad I didn't "settle" for a v6.

If you decide to go to the 3.92s. I have a 13K mile 2002 set I took out when I installed my 4.56s. I am selling them for 120-shipped.

I got everything I wanted except graphite. Damn I want graphite. Pat. Blue is hard to keep clean.

Did the 265's throw your speedometer reading off?

No the speedometer reading is fine. I was actually worried somewhat about that, but they told me that there is no adjustments made from factory as they have requests to add a wheel and tire group often and never change any settings for the tires. I am assuming since the 265s are not a drastic difference it does not matter, and if it did, I would think at most the speedo would be off 1 or 2 mph. Not sure though.

Thank You for the info. I recently bought a 2003 quad cab 4x4 sport plus with the 4.7. I had a 1999 cc 4x4 with a v6. I love my v8.

About the speedo question. Changing tire width wont affect the speedo but changing tire height will(ex. 75 to 85 series sidwall)

I just bought a 2003 SLT Plus with the V8. Too new for me to say anything about it. Any suggestions, hints, praise for my great wisdom, etc would be appreciated. Seriously, do you have any suggestions for add-ons, upgrades, or anything else I should do for comfort, safety, etc? Thanks
