There are so many dudes on this forum either sold their dak and got fords or GMs or want to sell their daks but can't. There are even guys on here that kept their dak and use it as a driver and got somthing cool like a Lightning or a Harley, if i could swing it that's what I would do.

this is the only dakota site ive ever been on, in 4 years of surfing boards that no one likes their trucks... i dont get it. i like mine, but its so impractical after i came into the marine corps, that its impossible for me to keep the enthusiasm i used to have for it.

I just unloaded my 2002 Dak a little over a week ago. It wasn't an RT, but it was an OK truck, except for the perpetual lily pond on the passenger side floorboard. I couldn't see joining the carpet of the month club while I waited for the ball joints and transmission to crap out, so I traded it for a new Tundra SR5. Someone else can worry about it now. It only had 10K on it, but it'll probably end up on some beater lot somewhere.

Great! A lot of us are seeing the light and getting out of Dodge! The way I see it it don't matter what brand of truck you get as long as it isn't a Dodge POS. Later.

You must realise there aren't many posts about people not selling their trucks.

So..

Hey. Just wanted to let you all know I'm keeping the truck. Unless it's got some serious cubes or a supercharger, there aren't many trucks that can keep up. ..and able to take corners at higher speeds.

It's a 2002 with 15.8K miles, just wanted to let you all I am not selling it.

*shrug*

You can't judge a vehicle by a forum. People post a lot more negative stuff than random blab about how much they love to drive their trucks. The negative is much louder.

Id like to sell my 2000 CC with 26k on it and the Mopar warranty for $15k... NOBODY... I mean nobody wants it. This truck is mint too.
Oh well Ill keep it and NEVER buy another new vehicle again.
I could dump another $5k in the truck and it would run basement 13s. Then again on my bikes I could dump 5k in them and run basement 8s.
Which would you choose?

Truck.. rocket..

4000 pound plus truck.. few hundred pound rocket..

leaf spring suspension.. rocket suspension..

Safety crap and crush zones.. pavement..

It looks like you're having trouble with this one, so I will help you out.

Trucks aren't made to go fast as hell in. Bikes are. Crotch rockets are made for the sole purpose of racing. Your truck is not.

Do you want to just go fast and have a toy. Or, do you want a fast truck you drive everyday and will utilise that investment more. I mean, you probably drive the truck 10X more than the bikes.

yeah thinking of dumping my P.O.S. 01 4.7 5 speed this truck is ugly as hell (saving up for a Avalanche) and I get smoked by every s-10 and taco around. screw selling it, I will donate it to charity, and throw some serious mods on my new TURBO charged Nissan Frontier. Actually, I think I'm going to get one of those sweet new Rangers, raise it 12 inches, run some 37's.

Mike...not for nothing..but I do ride the bikes more than the truck. My truck has 26k on it. Ive bought 2 bikes since March 2000. Both bikes sold with well over 25k on each. Both bikes ran low 9sec times on air/pumpgas. Both could get to around 190mph.
Dont get me wrong...I take pride in the ownership of my vehicles, just the timing is not right for owning a truck now. I have limited garage space and 2 race bikes to finish for September.
When the garage is finished at my new place...Ill be set, but that wont happen for another 3 months.
I had every intention of making my truck a 12 second ride...I dont have the motivation or time right now. I was trying to unload the truck as its never been parked outside very long. The paint is flawless, the truck is clean...like off the assembly line clean. Primed for forced induction too. Shoot even at a giveaway price...I cant even get a poor, pimple faced, high schooler to buy it.

Damn. That's nuts you ride your bikes that much.

You also have to remember that new cars are so damn cheap right now, "nearly new" vehicle's prices are taking a beating. A 2000-2001 is going to sell for a lot less than what you originally bought yours for.

It helped used cars that are older than yours. My 1990 RX-7 increased in demand over the past 7 months I've had it and have even had an offer on it (when I wasn't selling it). But it's such a good car I don't want to sell. I'm building that car up for road courses.

12 seconds on a truck takes a hell of a lot more work and money than it does for a bike (proportinally; 3 seconds faster). Loosing weight yourself makes you faster on a bike. An easy 12 second truck would be a newer Lightning, but then you'll be spending more than your Dakota and that's an even worse loss.

If you want a truck that's 12 seconds you'll probably have much better luck with a big block transplant than anything from a factory.

I dont think it will take very much to get the Dak into the 12s. I still have a stock motor.
Roller rockers, an M1, bigger injectors would put me squarely in the 13s. A supercharger and a gearing change will put me at basement 13s ..even high 12s in 90% humdity.
11s would be more expensive. From what a CF fabricator friend told me...for $7500 he could make me a few items like a faux bed, hood, maybe even a cab if I wanted to pay for the mold time.
That would be an easy 500lb weight loss and then traction would be an issue again.
