i have a 91' dakota 5.2 liter EFI. i put a new throttle position sensor in it because it was idling too high sometimes. now it runs rough at first and white smoke comes out, but when it runs good, my check engine light comes on and it wants to die all the time. i unplugged the battery for 30 min. to reset the ecu and it idled low and burned white but after a minute it ran fine a my light came on. and sometimes it still idles too high. can anyone help me? please email monkeyman880@aol.com (i have also put a cap, rotor, plugs, and all filters on it so that shouldn't be a problem) thank you, matt

Best bet would be to plug her into a code scanner and find out whats up... the low idle 'dying' could be a miss firing cylinder. As for the white smoke that could be any sealer or such from any of the filters, or gaskets that you replaced, which should just burn off.

Sealer from filters burning off? Never heard of this phenomenon. Have you test your TPS to see what voltage it is feeding the ECU at different levels of throttle? I bet you'll find at least one problem right there.

Did the problem start after the tps change? White smoke is almost always coolant.Sounds like a cracked cyl head or head gasket leak into the combustion chamber.Check the Rad for pressure pulses and bubbles with the cap off.Carefully
