Anything you can do to get it breathing easier will boost power, just like the newer (and older) ones. Freeing up the exhaust and intake restrictions will definitely help. Don't go with too big a cam, and if carbed stay away from those 750's, 600 cfm is better for a 318. In the 70's I had many 318's, my favorite carb was the big Carter 2 barrel from the 383 (need an adapter that is tough to find now). This and exhaust mods would really wake up a 318 and add a couple mpg ! Putting on too big a carb will kill your vacuum and hurt performance. I suspect yours is fuel injected though. Anyone remember when mopar did away with the lean burn ignition ? I think it was before '91 but if not changing to the orange mopar performance electronic control unit helps lean burn motors a lot. Hope this gets you started.

Plenty of things can be done besides the computer. Try and get good air flowing in and out as wha mentioned. Ported TB, intake, headers, and muffler type of stuff is all fairly strait forward.
