What does it take to swap the V6 magnum with a 5.9L engine? Has anyone done this? How much does it cost? I'm not really looking to make a super fast car, just looking to make a sgnificant more power than what I am now...Also hoping to increase gas mileage a bit. Is the V8 a DOHC or a SOHC? I am not really literate with dak's, but I know a bit about neons ;) . What is the approx cost of doing this? Could I just swap the head from the V6 magnum to the V8 if I could only locate a short block? Also, what adaptors do I need? I know that a swap for a neon, assuming you have everything built right, you need an adaptor(engine spacer really). Do you need something like this? Has anyone done this before?

Don't do it, go get a RT if you want the 5.9. Your not going to get better gas mileage out of the 5.9 infact it's worse. The 5.9 isn't a DOHC or a SOHC, it doesn't have the cam on the head, it's in the block with lifters, pushrods and rocker arms transfering the cam lift to the valves.

I "suppose" you could try and put V6 heads on a V8 block, but what about the other 2 cylinders of the V8. V6 heads will not fit on a V8 block, unless you hack off the last two cylinders off the V8 and make it a V6.

The only way to properly do a swap like this is to swap everything from the radiator to the rearend. Th V6 components, radiator, trans, rearend, ect., etc., will not hold up with the 5.9 V8. I put a 350 V8 in a S-10 years ago and EVERYTHING had to be replaced, and it probably cost about $3-4000 10 years ago.

Go get a V8 Dak,
