Hey everyone!

I need some "yeahs" and "neahs"... I have a friend who has a very strong electrical/installation background on anything under the sun (i.e sound systems for big dance clubs, home theater/sound/electric, car audio, car electrical you name it, he's done it....)

Anyways, He is going to be starting a buisness and I want to help him get some backing on his idea.... For all of us who like to drive, we can't help but like to have a nice sound system in our vehicles while cruzin down the road...
Here is what I need for you to tell me (and yes I know some of you can do it yourself)

If you had the choice of going to a custom car audio installation place or having someone come to you, whether it be while your at work, or at your home, to have your car stereo, speaker box or problems with anything electrical in your vehicle, what would you rather do? Please keep in mind everything is the same... warranties, customization, quality...except he is cheaper and if you find someone who is cheaper and have a legitimate quote, he will match it, if not beat it. let me know your opinions....

PS: I don't need smart ass comments. LOL!

Thanks everyone!

G.

Would love for someone to come to me.... Hell instead of having to wait until the weekend or something like that to get my speakers or radio installed would be great! I'm all for it!

No question... Come to my place to have something like that done... I would rather sit and watch someone put my stuff in so I can ask questions on stuff.... Definately a must! Good luck with the buisness...

I would only like it if I knew he would back up his work. I'm very picky about my truck and if I have someone do work to it, I want it done professionally. So if he is good then maybe I would consider it. I would like to see pictures of his work.

Sorry but Im gonna have to play "devils advocate" on this one.
You have to realize how much has to be removed in a good stereo install, that will mean interior panels, dash components and consoles laying about in a parking lot or where ever.

I for one have a big garage with more tools than I could even recall to do everything it is I need to do on a vehicle.

I guess what I want to say is...I cannot imagine someone having enough tools, weather and security to expose someone else's vehicle in a public place to perform that kind of work, oil changes yes, interior of a vehicle no.

If you've ever worked on vehicles for a living you know that quite often a new product or a tech issue comes up that requires tech support, what would he do if the product wasn't adaptable to the vehicle he was working on? He would have to reinstall (and hope he didn't modify beyond that) everything and then he must think about liability.
If someone saw him performing the work and was of the criminal type...decided to break in and steal it all, well your buddy would have a huge law suit on his hands and as much car theft and vandalism goes on I'll bet an insurance policy to do this would be very expensive.

I do own my own company and this is just advice and my .02 cause you asked.

Certainly you could fit all of the necessary tools and parts in a truck or van. Try it on a small scale, build up a little business model and test profitability. I think its a great idea and as long as that is the majority opinion, as it seems here, I would think this could be a successful little buisness. Oh yea, and bring louisville slugger witchya and anyone trying to steal anything from ya gets a swift crank in the head. ;)

I like that thought! 98Durango360! Uncle Louie is always a good Idea to bring to the party! HAHAHA!!! but to tell you the truth, if your at a home or a buisness who is going to bother you during the day??? I mean come on! How many people have had their windsheilds replaced while at work? I know I have, and I have never heard of someone robbing the installer or anything like that.

As for tools and equipment that is not an issue here because it's already done. As far as insurance.. Well that is covered as well. If you have ever tried to install a car stereo you know that you really don't need that many tools.. You need a voltage tester... Phillips, Nut Drivers or Socket Set, Crimps and really that is about it... But for other more indepth installations other tools might be nessasary and could easily fit into a trunk of a car. Besides, before doing an install you have to get everything you need first such as wire harnesses, speaker wire, miscelleaneous crimps, butt joints etc... Which most of these things can fit into a nice Tackle Box. Which would allow you to have everything organized.

I think the buisness will be a good one if done right... but hey I asked for opinons so bring them on... need as many views as possible.

Thanks,

G.

So your just talkin stereo heads? If so then yes, you need very few tools and bad weather wont even be a problem.....have you ever installed a full system?
Im talkin rear pillar mount speakers, in door speakers and possibly a Q Form in pannel mount sub?
That takes removing 1/2 or more of the cars interrior.

Before you say As far as insurance.. "Well that is covered as well", have you really checked into it?
I know a guy who does "mobile winshield R&R", his insurance is 3 times an in house companys.

BTW.....sounds like you wanted opinions that sidded with yours, not all opinions.
