I'd like to add to this question
Which is better dual exhaust or turn downs
I've had them both on different vehicles but I don't know which is better for the 4.7L as far as performance goes, I don't mind the look of the missing tailpipes on a turn down setup as long as it helps performance

I have the magnaflows, great muffler a little more pricey than flowmasters but I like the contruction better, less chance of seams breaking. SOunds more mellow than the Flows, but louder than Gibsons. I'm running single/dual 2.5 in with 3.5 in magnaflow slash tips. Umm as far as perf goes, I felt a little decrease in the low-end but that is unavoidable with an exhaust change either single 3" or dual 2.5" Just chip it later and the low end will come back with even more vengence.

Thanks for the reply, I am also going to put a drop in K & N air filter for now. SO we'll see how the two improve things... if they do.

Muffler - your choice.
But please,,,please don't do turn downs directly out of the muffler!!!
This will sound incredibly horrible. I've been told I have the best sounding exhaust on a truck by many people. ('01 4.7 w/2chamber Flowmaster single in, dual out) I know a guy who owns the same truck same muffler but dumps down directly out of the muffler, and it sounds terrible. Almost ricey V6'ish.

Zendak-How long do your pipes extend off the muffler, I was thinking I could put the Flowmaster where my third cat is now, and have the pipes turndown in front of the axle.

What do you think?

I have the single in dual out Magnaflow and I agree with ZenDak on the dumps right after the muffler. But where I live everyone has em out the back. So I dumped each pipe just after the spare tire. Still have the low rumble and just slightly different than the others.

I run my pipes all the way out the back w/maybe an inch or less or the tips sticking past my rear bumper. If I do my exhaust again I'll probably still do duals same setup, but dump them straight down, as far back as possible.
I figure alot of the sound comes from the tips, and pipe length,,,,,I want to retain the sound, and figure I'll have to run the pipes as far back as I can, and dump somewhere between the the spare tire, and back bumper.

Newbie here. What would it cost (ballpark) to get dual exhaust for a 2000 4.7 having headers added on both sides? I have a buddy who swears that that would cost at least $1200 bucks...pro. installed/materials included. Does this sound right? If not the header scenario...at least 2 mufflers (2 lines) v. 1 all the way thru? I want a cool sounding machine...and if I gain some horses....what the hell. Anybody have some good price ideas for both scenarios in the rural OH, NY, or PA markets? Thanks, Scott.

I have split duel catbacks from Gibson on my 4.7 and I absolutely love the sound they make. They run around the spare and exit at the rear on either side, with slash cut tips. I noticed that when I had them dump down before my bumper I would get exhaust dirt and soot on my bumper. The exhaust is stainless steel and cost me around 400 bucks. Its a bolt-on construction so any one with a few craftsmen tools could put one on. I have never done a exhaust before this one and It only took me 2 hours to do it in my garage.

400 bucks and your truck could sound great, save the labor and do it yourself. The kit comes with the muffler and stainless clamps and mounting clamps necessary to make it work and hang it properly. Its so easy to do, theres really no other reason to pay 200 bucks in labor when you don't have too. Save the labor and buy more goodies! Unlike engines exhaust technology doesn't require a computer to mess with, so go get your hands dirty and learn something about your truck!

Take a look at these. I had local shop install single in duals out the back with 24" chrome tips for 170.00 plus tax.

I have a 2000 Dodge Dakota and i am planning on putting duals on it. When i went to muffler express they said i couldn't run two pipes with a muffler on each one and a cat on each one. They said if i did that it would mess up the computer, but if i ran the o2 sesor on just one cat, would that work? Thanks
