Subject: Engine noice?? Please help

ALright, I own a 2002 Dodge dakota, with the 4.7. Now recently I noticed 2 new noises that i have not ever heard before. The first noise is when I turn the truck off, it seems like something is releasing pressure or something. Then in a few seconds it is done. Happen with ac/def on/off. Also At idle there is a ticking sound coming from the driverside of the motor. Eiter a lifter or the injector. But it seems louder then normal. I run premium fuel, and I have not heard this sound before. DO i need to take it to the shop. I only have 19000 miles on it. Can't believe something could be wrong with it already. PLEASE HELP

Hey Dodgeman,

Since nobody will reply to your question I will.. I have a 97 5.2 liter and I hear the same noise. I don't believe this is anything to worry about. You can hear this noise outside your window...or when you leave the cab with the truck running... If your truely worried about it take it back to the dealer... You should still have a warranty on that truck. As for the sound that you get when you stop the truck and it sounds like pressure is being released sounds like a vacuum leak. You can ask them about that too. I know I wasn't much of a help but hey atleast I responded. Hope you get these problems fixed.

TTYL,

G.

Thanks for The reply. Its a new message so i figured it might take a day to get some input. When you shut your motor off, does it stop on the dime, or do you hear anything, I took it to the dealer for that noise and they said it was normal. Loud but normal. But the other noise is really loud, i know i would have heard it when i first started the motor, when i bought it. YEah, it is still under warranty tho. Thanks for the reply.

Dodgeman,

Yes my truck stops on a dime when I turn my engine off. If this is something that does not sound normal I would be at the place where I bought it and telling them that I want it fixed. If they start giving you a hard time tell them you want to speak the manager. If he won't help you, try another Dodge dealer and see if they will help. With your truck being so new you should be hearing any noises.. Let me know what you find out! I'm interested in that ticking noise....

Thanks,

G.

The ticking noise I would get checked out for sure but are you sure that the pressure release noise is not just the coolant settling into non-running pressures? When I shut the engine off on my '02 Dakota there are a few seconds of quiet gurgles and a hiss or two from the engine and behind the dash.

All I have to say about new noises is enjoy your truck while it is brand new and prepare yourself for things to breakdown and keep reading these froums to help take advantage of your warranty. I still belive they are great trucks.
