Well, as long as you dredged up this old post, I've pulled 7500# on my 20' fifth wheel flatbed with my 4.7, no trouble. Don't know what your gooseneck weighs, I'm guessing I've got you beat by about 1000# ? Also pulled a disabled 9 ton backhoe uphill on a gravel drive; needed 4 low to pull that. And we should tip our hats to Graphite Dak, whose toy hauler weighed in at well over 7500#, I think. But this thread was about the most hauled in the truck, rather than behind it.

Lead, follow, or get out of the way

Once I hauled a quard of fire wood in the back of a 92 Dakota. For those that don't know a quard of fire wood is 2'W x 4'T x 16'lg, split and stacked. By definition, a quard of wet red oak weighs 5000#. This wood had about a week to dry out so it weighed about 4K. Picture wood stacked as high as the top of the cab all the to the tail gait and that's a quard.

While not a Dakota, still in the family. 1986 Dodge Ram 3/4 ton with 360LA and 727 auto. How 'bout an 11,000 lb sailboat on a 4 axle trailer weighing in around 5,000 lb for a grand total 16,000lb in tow. Felt like it could handle even more.

Just last week I hauled almost 3000lbs of gravel, sand, cement, and fly ash for a mix design, in my bed. This is with a 2/3 drop riding the bump stops up the 65 degree slope up and out of the quarry pit and over 100 miles back to my lab. Now that was alot of fun.

Howdy I'm new here (registration pending) and I have not hauled much in my dak, but my 99 cummins pulled a 40 yard dupster filled with scrap iron across my gravel parking lot. The tare weight of the dumpster was 6500 and when they hauled it off to the scale it weighed in at 19,532 pounds. I was in 4low and did not even touch the fuel, I just let the governor do the work. I love my cummins but with winter coming and fuel prices rising it gets retired until the deep snow comes. If anyone lives around indiana, there is a guy named Jim Jessup, he has worked with cummins for 30+ years and knows what he is doing. He turned my truck from a reasonably powerful rig into something of a juggernaut. It has no problem turning 35's and this is without all of those high dollar gizmo's that you see out there. I have never raced it on the track, but there are plenty of powerjokes and duramutts around here that hate to see my tail lights!

As Kowalski mentioned, I towed a toy hauler a few times no problem. It was rated 7,700 Lbs and I had the ATV's stood up to actually get more in there than it was meant!
Of course I never tried to tow it with the stock 3.55 gears. I put in the 4.56 gears for that kind of abuse!

As for in the Dakota bed. The worst thing I ever did to it was pick up about 20 or so bags of 80# Cememnt Mix into the bed of the truck! Worse yet, I wasn;t paying attention to what I was doing and counted about 10 bags on the tailgate alone!!!!! I moved it all into the bed and nothing was hurt.

I'd like to see that done in the real world with the minvan chassis based Honda Ridgeline!

in my 1990 dakota
every hunting season we pile 4or 5 people in the back, about 200 lbs each
so about 1000lbs
ive bottomed out the suspenion on the bump stops with add-a-leafs and air shocks at 150psi when i loaded it with sand

in my 03 3500 ive had
1 electric motor 150 hp, that weighed at least 1500 lbs
1 motor (100 hp) that was about 1200 lbs
3 10 hp motors at 100 lbs a piece
1 15hp at 150lbs
so like 3200 lbs
but the suspension still had alot left in it

1990 sport RC SB, 1995 318drivetrain, 3.92 gears (came with truck) Powertrax "traction system", 95 dash/steering wheel, hearthrob exhaust, headers, cutout after y-pipe, necessary electric fan add-a-leafs, 30x9.5 mud tires, cranked T-bars, AR 39 15x8 rims, grill guard, roll bars

I thought my Dakota was a 1 ton when I purchased it. :)

I have hauled 1500 lbs of ceramic tile, 2 wooden pallets, 3 bags of mortar, and 2 bags of grout in my '03 QC

Mounded bed of stacked fire wood (MANY trips) while towing a 4x8 trailer the same. Has hauled between 4-7 chords of wood each year.

About 4 yards of mulch (constructed sides higher than the cab). Once had 3 yards in the back with 2 1/2 yards in a trailer.

Slide in camper that weighs 990 lbs dry. I add water and gear, and then sleep my wife and I in the back.

Currently use timbrens to help the suspension but looking at adding supersprings

As much as I love my Dakota, my next truck will be a little larger
