I have a question about the installation of the H.O. cams and intake. Who has done them and, How long did it take? On a scale of 1 to 10, how hard is it (I have access to "The Tool", and my dad was a mechanic)? My last question, if you dont do it yourself how much would it cost to have a shop do it?

Hey Jeremy,

I did the H.O. cams only and it took about 1 1/4 days. My father and I did the swap ourselves and we were not sure what we were doing but we double checked everything before proceeding. The actual replacement of the Cams took under an hour, but the removal and installation of all the other items in the way took forever. Just make sure that you use the wedge correctly. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate the entire task about a 8, mainly due to the time it took.

I am not sure about the intake. I just wanted the extra torque from the cams and I was not disappointed.

Good Luck on the swap.

I did the cams alone in 6 hours total, but in that time I also changed the t-stat and really took my itme. On a difficulty scale I rate it a 5.

The intake was done later and that took about 1.5 hours again since I took my time. I would say this is a difficulty 4...

Just take your time and you will be fine... be familliar with everything you have to do ahead of time and it all works out great...

I've called the Dodge dealer and they want $570.00 just to do the cams. Add a couple more hours (shop track) for the intake and you're looking at about $800.00 for the who deal. I'm going to do it myself. Instructions for the cams are very detailed and straight forward.

does it void your warranty if you put the cams and intake on?

I had my local Jeep dealer do the cams and intake and it was $423 total, they took about 6 hours to do it. NO, it doesn't void your warranty when you do this.

Are just the Cams alone a good upgrade, how do they feel from a seat of the pants feel?

Just did the cam install Friday evening. My cousin's husband is a Dodge mechanic, so I took it to his shop to help me. As with everything, the right tools made it look easy. From start to finish, including cleaning the throttle body, scoping out his friend's RT, talking to his wife on the cell phone, and hooking my truck up to his computer to reset the PCM, it took us 2.5 hours. It really was a piece of cake. His knowledge of the 4.7 motor was the reason it was so easy. He knew the exact size of every bolt that needed to be removed. No guesswork anywhere.

While he had my truck hooked up to his computer, he noticed several flashes that were available. Ahhhh, no thanks. She runs just fine!

However, I didn't get the seat of the pants feel I was hoping for. Maybe my butt dyno doesn't work. I suppose there's a little more there, but not quite what I was expecting. I've driven it about 200 miles since Friday and that should be enough time for the PCM to adjust to the new cams.

On the bright side, the cruise control works much better now!

Hopefully installing my new 3.92 gears and LSD will give me that oomph I've been looking for.

The power's there you just need to add the bigger tb for it to be felt. You can't make the extra power with out the air for it to burn, don't worry it only gets better!!

Scratch my comment about not feeling the difference. I definitely could tell a difference on my way to work this morning.

I live in Baton Rouge and my cousin (where I did the install) lives in Mobile. I guess driving in a different city (loaded up with kids and luggage) and on the interstate on the way home weren't the best ways to tell a difference. Driving my daily route to work allowed me to make better comparisions.

I'm still amazed how a good mechanic with the right tools can make a job look easy. By myself, with hand tools, this install would've easily taken twice as long.

Hmmm, I wonder if I can talk him into installing my gears as well...
