The only thing I have found with my '02 dakota in 18 months not to my liking is a little excess noise from my suspention. For example, when I attempt a tight low speed turn there is a loud "clunck" from my front end. Has any one else found the same in their trucks?

Every 4x4 truck I have ever owned does that. I had an explorer, Isuzu Trooper, and now the DAK they all make that noise. My brothers Tacoma does it too.

I would not worry about it.

Very good, Thank-you.

My old beast never made the noise and that was all I had to go by. I will put it to rest in my head now.

noises are what makes one take on the everlasting job of working on ones vehicle....and plus you keep the parts companies in buisness.

that clunking is not normal. it's more than likely you ball joints. do a search and you'll see tonz of people who replaced the non greasable factory ball joints with moog greasable ones and we are all so much more happier and no more clunking.

occasionally I get a clunk when I'm in 4x4 but that is a whole different ball of wax. Under normal driving I never hear a clunk any more.

I've had the same problem with my 2002 Quad Cab. It's been to the dealer 5 times already and they have tried everything from rewelding joints to replacing shock mounts but it still makes the noise. It's worse when it rains and sounds like it's coming from the right front. I think it's a body mount bushing but the dealer disagrees. Any ideas?

I HAVE A '99 DAKOTA CLUB CAB THAT I BROUGHT IN FOR ALIGNMENT AND WAS TOLD I NEEDED A NEW LOWER BALL JOINT, (RIGHT). THE REPAIR SHOP ORDERED A NEW BALL JOINT BUT THEN SAID THIS BALL JOINT COULD NOT BE REMOVED AND WOULD HAVE TO CHANGE THE WHOLE CONTROL ARM. IS THIS TRUE?

your right. the ball joints cannot be removed without a torch or some serious riggin. they are held in place with big rivets that arent supposed to come out
