If there is enough sediment in the fluid to impede filter flow, you have a problem that the flush is going to make worse. There are magnets in the pan to catch metallic debris, and the "screen" catches non-metallic.

I work for a dealership and we recommend flushing at 30,000 and a pan drop and flush a 60,000, but that is GM. I would immagine that Chrysler would probably be similar or more often because of the problems these transmissions are having.

If the fluid is left in the vehicle to long or the conditions are bad enough, the detergents in the fluid actually become part of the friction surfaces. If you flush a transmission under these conditions, it most likely won't last more than 15 miles! The new detergents will break down the old detergents that have impregnated the clutches and cause them to release, taking most of the clutch material with it.

IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH YOUR TRANSMISSION, 95% OF THE TIME FLUSHING WILL MAKE IT WORSE! If you are doing preventative maintenance, flush, it you have neglected the transmission and are trying to save what is left, pan drop. A pan drop only replaces some of the fluid and doesn't overload the system with fresh detergents.

This info comes from a viscious chemical expert with BG services. They are a large provider of flushing equipment within dealerships. He himself said that Chrysler transmissions are known for their poor fluid flow and low line pressures.

Hey GENII owners, most of our problems are with the "honeycomb" coolers in the radiator. Their little passaages get clogged with debris and won't allow the fluid to circulate, causing the fluid to burn and in turn ruining the transmission.

I have a 99 Dakota RT.Just after 30,000,the tranny started slipping slightly.Dealer flushed tranny, and adjusted bands.Much better, shifted fantastic. This time, just around 60,000 miles,it felt like it was staying in first too long, and really slipping, mainly first to second.Brought it to the dealer, thinking the tranny flush would work again. They told me that I had lost second gear, after a few hours of worrying I may have to have the tranny pulled for inspection, they found a tranny band to have been snapped off.Thank God for the extended warranty!I'm covered to 75000,I have about 72500 on it right now.The problem now is,just after it shifts from 1rst to 2nd,it slips out of 2nd,for about two seconds, and then performs normally from second gear on.Seems to be less noticeable in warmer temparatures, which may explain why it would not do it when I brought it back to the dealer....I do plan on going back, and driving it until it slips, very soon. The only other info regarding the tranny,is just prior to the 60,000 mile slip,I had installed the mopar performance computer, which made the tranny shift nicer, but also harder.I drove it hard, but not abusive since the computer replacement. It was fairly soon after that it slipped, and the band was broken. Also,I went out of my way to make sure they did not re flash my computer. Is it a band problem, computer problem?Any help much appreciated. Thanks,Todd
