I have to give it to everyone on these boards for the advice.

I have a 99 Dakota r/t. It has 60,000 miles on it. I had the oil changed just after I bought it and they told me it was way low on oil. After 2000 miles I was 3 quarts low. I only just noticed the pinging about 1000 miles ago. I came in here and searched for a answer. Everyone in here did a excellent job describing how to test. I went home, started her up and tested the vacuum. Sure enough it was sucking like crazy. I thought I would take a quick glance down the TB and low and behold, there was a puddle ( yes, a PUDDLE) of oil in the bottom of the intake.

So, this weekend will be the repair. I will do it all myself, but I am curious if there are any tricks I might want to know. i would hate to spend an hour trying to do something to only find out one of you figured out how to do it in 5 minutes.

Thanks again to everyone.

Tip #1) Keep a shop vac handy. It's great for vacuuming up any errent bits of gasket material that may fall into a port or into the valley.

Tip #2) Now's a great time to swap in a 180 degree tstat, if you've already have not done so.

Tip #3) Take the oppurtunity to clean the TB, and the IAC motor. Don't forget to keep a gasket kit handy.

Tip #4) Take your time! Allow yourself a full day.

Good luck.

Thanks.

I am going to try to take off early today to do this, but we will see if it happens or not.

Okay, did it all this weekend. Had to buy all the parts from Dodge, but oh well. One thing I noticed though. Fel Pro makes a intake gasket kit that has a belly pan formed into it. I would think that with the belly pan built into the gasket, you could get around having the plenum gasket. It would make sense. Another insight. the Fel Pro plenum pan gasket is a thin metal peice with gasket like material on each side. The one that was on my truck was a normal gasket material with no metal. The one I bought from Dodge is just a metal peice, with no gasket material at all. Now, I am not saying anything about Dodge, but I am not very confident that this little peice of metal I put on there is actually going to stay sealed. It is working as we speak, but no gasket material at all, just metal to metal for a seal? If I had my stealth working I could have went and picked up the Fel pro gasket, but I was stuck at home with no car.

Anyone else do this themselves? What type of gasket did you have?

I put in a 180 thermostat. I understand the engine running cooler, but am I supposed to notice anyhting from this?
