 Subject: 318 to 360 swap - what computer

I have a '97 Dakota. I am putting in a 360 R/T block that is bored .020" over. Also am running ported and polished heads, modified T/B and intake, with some other mods.
I need to find out what computer to use. I know there is a different part number for each year and between the Dakotas, Durangos, and Rams. Which one should I go with?
I do alot of towing, so I was told not to us the performance computer.

Try running it with your 318 pcm first. Normally I wouldn't recommend that but it doesn't sound like your 360 is going to heavily modified. See how it runs.
If you are not happy, get a Mopar Performance 318 pcm. I don't see a problem with towing with one if 1) you run 91 octane or above 2)run a 180' thermostat and 3) run a slightly colder plug like the Autolite 3923. Good luck.

I just did the 318 - 360 on my 97 dak. I had to put the Mopor Performance computer in. I tow a boat alot and have no trouble, seems to tow better honestly.

I used the PCM for the 318. I have a 5 speed so there would be no way to use one for the 360, plus it is a 97, and I'm pretty sure 98 was when the R/T's were introduced.

i have a 98 ram my 318 has seen better days so i thought i would put in a 360 but not sure what would have to change looking for a little help

Most stuff will interchange, but the engines are balanced differently - using the flex plate I believe that year. Then I'd look for a 360 PCM from a same year, similar truck.
