Subject: 99 RT oil consumption. HELP?
IP: Logged

Message:
I have 99 RT CC. I have an oil consumption problem and would like to find the source. About a quart every 6-8 weeks. I know what and where the intake manifold gasket is. Where is the intake plenum gasket? Is there a difference between intake manifold gasket and a "belly" gasket? I've heard that if you look down throught the TB and see burned oil residue/sludge it may indicate a leak, but from where? It looks pretty clean. If I was to have either of these checked out I assume it would be through some kind of pressure test. I want to have it looked at but don't want to get hosed by the dealer or a mechanic. There is an obvious leak somewhere so what are some good replacement gaskets when I find out where the problem is? Thanks to all who reply.

The intake gasket and belly pan gasket are different. If you take a hanger and tape a q-tip to it and stick it down through the TB and run it up and down the edge whee the gasket is and see if you have any oil on it. And yes the dealer can do a pressure test to tell if the gasket is leaking.
