I have a 2002 reg cab 4.7 automatic. This thing was the "plain jane" model. It came with 15X7 rims and 215/75/15 tires. These tires barley fill the fender wells. I want to go to a bigger size. The small tires give it the Zip ok, but want to go to something like 235/75/15 or fatter. Has anyone done this and if so, have they had any problems with the odometer being off? I havent seen to many like mine especially with the V-8, with such small tires...

I have a '01 Sport RC 4.7 5spd and it originally came with the 15x7 rims and 215/75R15 rubber. I thought this to be very strange since it came with PW, PL , leather steering wheel cover, slider rear window, infinity stereo. Getting traction was a pain so I found some '00 15x8 rims with tires for a good deal and got those on now.
Now i have better traction and the fatter tire look better anyways. IF i were you i would scope out EBAY and find some cheap 15x8 or 16x8 rims and get the tires of your choice.

I changed my 00 CC 4.7 Auto about 6 months ago.
It had 215/75/15's on it.
I went with 235/75/15's. I also took it to the dealer and had them change the pinion factor to recognize the larger size.
It cost me $35.00 to have it done.
This takes care of the speedometer and the auto trans when it tries to shift.
I have had no problems so far and it fills the wheel well so much better.

you got robbed 35.00. Changing from a 215 to 235 has nothing to do with the ratio. The 75 number is the height the 235 is the cross section width. Your new tires are the same height as your old ones Just fatter.

Hey Jase, go to www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc
and key in the two tire sizes.
There is a difference in size.
The height difference is about and inch.

width*aspect ratio/100*2+rim
So it'd be 235mm*75/100+15" vs. 215*75/100+15. Do the unit conversions if you want to find the proper numbers.
There is the other format which is simply hight x width-rim. And that's usually in inches. ie: 29x10.5R15

In reference to a previous response, the middle number is not the height of the tire,
I beleive it is the "percent" of the side wall height that is compared to the section width
