I have a ping problem and a few said it could be the belly pan gasket. I looked down the TB and saw just a very light coat of oil on the bottom. Still was shiny metal, and not coated all over the pan. How bad is bad?

how long has it been pinging? if it is fairly recent you might not have a lot of oil in there... if it is blown bad you will have a noticable amount... there shouldn't be any, at the most a very light film you probably wouldn't notice with out taking it apart anyway... if you can see it, good chance it's blown... so do your self a favor, get a billet plentum plate or an M1 and please, torque the bolts to 12ft/lbs and in the right order or you will be installing new head gaskets in a few days...

I got the truck in Oct. it has 62000 miles on it. It is a 98 cc 4x4 5.2 Seems fine when it is cool, but as soon as it reaches operating temp it starts to ping under load. runs about 180 to 190, So I am guessing it must have a 180 thermostat. The pcv blows into the intake, wouldnt that cause some oil film on the pan? I dont have much, and would hate to do it if I didnt have to. What about the knock sensor? any ideas?? Thanks

plentum gasket is very common, it could be something else but the odds are it's not... it's like $100 max if you buy the nice billet pan and gasket and a couple hours... plus it's a good time to clean everything up and port the intake some... it would prob cost more than that to have a dealer test it...

I don't believe that the 5.2 has a knock sensor. Im not a hundred percent sure but I think its one of the few engines today that doesn't have one.
