Hey could someone tell me what the stock HP/Tq numbers are for a 91 5.2, just so I got an idea for when I start to mod my truck in the next few weeks.
My plans are to either do true dual exhaust or a dynomax super-turbo(money dependant), and a K&N drop in air filter
Any suggestions for other good mods are appreciated, please note I live in canada and that the cops around here are pretty up tight abou the law

Stock TQ is 260 and stock hp which is a big guess as nobody seems to know is 170-220hp I have been told 170 more than anything else

What kind of mods are you going to do?

well air filter and exhaust as mentioned, being the fact it is a 4x4 I wanted to get the 31" tires(I think that is the right size) and rims off of a newer dakota, replace the cap with a roll bar with some fog lights across it, was going to dress up the engine a bit, bush bar across the front, then work at getting a few more horse out of the engine
At the end of it all I would like to see the enigine putting out around 300 hp, hopefully runnning naturally aspirated, with a nice amount of torque to make the truck get up and go well but not rip the crap out of the tranny, the truck has 157 000 miles on it and it is still running original enigine and tranny

Last summer I bought a 1995 Dakota sport with the V8 Mag under the hood, I liked to bug my import tunning freinds about their lack of engine size, asking where the other half of the motor was. This led into an argument about what was better a suped-up four or six banger or a good old fashioned V8. Anyways to make a long story short, some one on my behalf said that they saw on the internet that my truck with merely intake and exhaust modifications, would run a 12.8 sec 1/4 mile!! my question is can anyone verify this?

I bought a '92 5.2 new in Jan.'93. I remember the first Magnums had a 60 hp improvement over the '91's. 1992= 230hp/280tq, so '91 had 170 hp. I don't recall the tq #.

does anyone know if parts off of the magnum 318's will bolt directly onto the pre magnum block, or if the magnum engines will drop in with minimal problems??

The Magnum 5.2, introduced in '92 was a considerable change from '91. Very little interchanges, maybe the block and pistons. If you go with a '92-up swap, at a minimum you will need the engine controller, wiring, fuel lines, fuel tank and pump in addition to the engine. If you are keeping the '91 engine, there is still 70's on up 318 style parts you can use (cams, headers, valve covers, engine controllers). There should be some good salvage magnums out there. If you are lucky, find a '92 or '93 5.2. They had considerably larger exhaust manifolds than '94-up. The numbers went from 230hp/280tq in '93 to 220hp/295tq in '94...more truck characteristics. One of Mopar Action's editors in '93 caused quite a stir with his '93 RC 5.2 3:92 auto. With the only mods being a MP 25hp computer, and K&N drop in, he ran 14.4 1/4mi. losing by one length to a 275hp 6spd Trans Am, absolutely waxing a Mustang 5.0 5spd that ran 15's. That was on the stock 75 series tires, no less! Later, I recall they got the Dak down to 14.2. Pretty sweet.

well that kinda sucks that the magnum wont slide in there easily.
Does anyone have any good suggestions to get the HP/TQ #'s up on the engine then, without having to shell out a lot of cash other than the basic stuff such as headers, exhaust, bigger tb.

My '94 modle is rated 220 HP and about 300 lbs tourqe. I can tell at tourqe is all there at around 1800 RPMs.

I'm installing a Holly manifold and also going to use a Comp 262 cam. I bet I'll get closer to 300 HP.
