I have a 01 club cab auto 4.7 with 3.92's (no mods). My freind has a 02 extended cab ranger auto sohc 4.0 with a flowmaster and k&n. We raced probably close to a 1/4 mile from a red light leaving work today. I got a good launch but I still got my ass handed to me. This is shame. he pulled almost a truck length before we let off.

That's definitely not good, cause I used to beat them stock all the time. The flowmasters add nothing to a Ranger but sound, and the K&N doesn't help that much.

What RPM are you launching? We have a pretty high stall from the factory.

Try torque braking to various RPM marks (1K-2.2K), then launching. Don't just punch it, or you'll spin forever. I've got the 3.55 LSD, so you should come out of the hole better than me "if" you hook.

I didn't just punch it though. I feathered it a bit before flooring it. We both got a little tire spin. He got me slightly off the line but not as much as he did at the end. He just kept pulling. Maybe I should look under his hood.

I had a buddy with a ranger 4.0. I thought it was pretty quick at the time but i don't think he would touch my truck.... hmmm.... troubling
