Subject: IAT Sensor Relocate

Message:
I was looking at my truck and it looks like there are 2 sensors that look the same. One on top of the intake by the #2 cylinder and one down by the thermostat. Not sure which one to move. Thanks for any help

And, your truck was made in_____year.

And, you have a ______engine.

And, you meant to add the most important data to your question, so some one could help you out.

All I know really, is that you have at least two cylinders. PS-moving the IAT in the winter won't get you much.

It's the one on top of the intake.

I still don't understand why everyone wants to move it.

I have a 99 with the 5.9. Not sure why I want to move it either. Everyone keeps talking about it so I thought I would give it a shot.

If you aren't sure what the IAT does, and the principles involved as to why you would want to move it, then I wouldn't bother.

Actually, I do understand what the sensor does by reading all of the different post's out here. I have read both positive and negative things for doing this. I already moved it. I wanted to make sure I moved the right one. I have not ran it long enough to see a real change.

Mr fink,

cool, I hope you moved the correct one also.

I think that if you did move the correct one, then you probaby really wouldn't notice it.

Mostly, the % gain can often be seen on a dyno run, same conditions, with it in the two different places.

I think it's popular b/c, most of us are trying many inexpensive ways to squeeze a little more out of our engines. It usually is inexpensive, or often free, to relocate the IAT, and it has the potential to help some.

No, I think that most of the people on this board move it because they have no idea how an engine works, and think that more fuel = more horsepower (much like the larger injectors...). What they don't know is that a leaner mixture will produce more horsepower than a rich mix.

After moving it, you will notice:

No gain
Worse MPG

moving the sensor also allows the on-board computer to increase spark advance, which in turn will give you slightly more power.

I agree with Joe, poor mileage, could take a toll
on the cat, I get a code. Buy the MP computer and
or move the crank sensor for more advance.

Moving the IAT sensor is a very popular mod because it can solve the problem of the manifold superheating the brass IAT sensor. This causes an improper reading, and moving it can gain better performance.

I'm unclear how people have lost MPG, mine increased, along wiht performance. must've been that I reset my pcm to learn it all over again.
