i have a 2001 with a 5 spd 4.7L and i didnt get a tranny cooler on it. has anyone used an aftermarket tranny cooler on this type of truck, and if so what kind did you use, the factory one is very high

Make sure your tranny does not use the radiator as its cooler. My tranny has fluid that runs through the very bottom of the radiator. It all came from the factory. I know I have a completely different set-up than you, but just check first before you spend any money on installing an aftermarket cooler.

bigdawg: Im sure you have a factory tranny cooler built into the radiator. If so you leave the stock cooler intact and run the line out of the stock cooler into the aux cooler and then into the tranny.
Then you will have two coolers - it works very well - I had two coolers on my Supra TT. The aux cooler cooled the tranny fluid temp by an additional 20degress after it had already gone through the stock cooler.

Never thought of that, gcsupraman. Not sure if the added benefit it would be worth the additional cost though.

Well considering most automatic tranny failers are caused by heat - its worth it in my opinion even if you don't tow.
You can buy tranny coolers from summitt or jegs for $100.00 or less.
