I think you'll find that the 98 limit is only on 4.7L's with an aluminum driveshaft. It's driveshaft whip, and not tires/wheels that prompted the lower speed limit.

who is that dumbass that wants us to buy civics? F**k no I hate ricers....don't understand what happened. 1950-1995 camaros, mustangs, corvettes, gto's, they were the cars to own...cars with huge *ss engines that really flew...then sometime in the early 1990s something happened and everybody's like check out my powerful kick*ss 1.6L civic (106 painful horses by the way). What the f**k....people forgot what fast really is...comeon now American v8s are the sh*t baby!

I think mine has a aluminum driveshaft. It's also a 4.7 with 4X4 to boot and hits 120 as well.

Yeah HemiDude. People forget what FAST is!
Being pulled back into your seat all the way to 130+ or so from a nasty (streetable) V8 is fast.
These Riced out or TUNED econo boxes are NOT fast like that. Not even close. Some built V8's will SCARE passengers who ride along. I wouldn't be scared by some bumble bee sounding FWD.

V8's also have the best sound if you ask me. Fours, Sixes, and even V10's just don't compare to a V8 sound. No matter what some Ricer may think. If they had previously owned a nasty V8 they wouldn;t think a fart cannon on a I4 or V6 sounded good!

When I got my Canadian 1999 R/T it had a speed limiter at about 180kph (112mph). After installing the Mopar PCM all limits were gone. Since that time I regulary drive the R/T at speeds up to 200kph (124mph). The R/T easlily would go faster but the speedo ends at 200kph and I don't want to detroy the speedo. The R/T has the OEM 17" wheels with Dunlop SP Sport 2000 ZR 255/50 on all 4.

When we were growing up my buddy had a 62 300H with a 413 with dual quads. The only mod was a set of glasspacks. This was in 1971. The car was a BIG luxury two door with 4 buckets and a full console. Darn thing only ran on sonoco 260. Fill the tank for 12 bucks and cruise all nite (couple of hours anyway). To this day I have newer heard anything like when you floored that car. Sweetest, loudest 8 I ever heard.

I've got a 2001 4.7 and I can't stand not being able to go over 100 mph. I've always been a fan of the real muscle. My truck before this one was an 84 S10 that I dropped a 350 small block with an RV cam in. Now that's torque. But on the other hand, I also own a GSR integra that I love. There's nothing like being that low to the ground doing 120 to 140 mph. The handling is pretty awesome too. I definitely can't take a corner at high speeds with my SLT.
I'll always be a fan of torque and the hole shot but you gotta love the top speed & handling.
P.S.-What's the cheapest way to eliminate the governor on my 2001 Quad Cab?

above, one person said that v8 is really s...t
and that civic 1,6 L is very good

i don`t think so........

kinethical energy = speed * speed * mass of car * 50%

so if you have two cars which weight 1000 kilograms and second 3000 kilograms, then the biggest car needs 9 times bigger engine then small car

counts are here: (3000/1000)*(3000/1000)=9

mustang with V8 618 cubic incches, gigantic supercharger, and so on weights ..... i suppose abut 2800 kilograms

1,6L civic weights about 1100 kilograms so

mustang needs (2800/1100)*(2800/1100)= 6,479 more power than civic

so if Your civic has 106 painful horses
mustang need 686,8 horses to have this same acceleration ......

but only V8 sound good
only american cars are safe ........
(i don`t come from USA and i see european and asian cars after crash - it`s horrible)

i thik that ypur cars have speed limit about 100 miles per hour becouse transmission box which don`t support high shifts (factories care about safe :) )

i`m sorry about my influent language, i don`t come from USA

Obviously here it comes I knew it would come...some dumbsh*t who thinks he knows what he it talking about spouting off mathematical formulas and scientific theory in order to discount the fact that cars with large displacement engines simply out perform every ricer monster on the market..If this is the case mr. genious..why do we see things like an '02 ss camaro flying across the line from 0-60 mph (approximately 100 kph for our out of town friends) in 5.3 seconds and honda's little ricer eater '04 civic ex do the same in 9.4!!! I'll tell you...look at the weights of your estimate..these weights have a HUGE difference. 1700 kilograms you have to be kidding me! The '02 ss camaro weighs only 1502.73 kilograms, while the civic weighs 1113.182. that is only a difference of 389.548 kilograms. The mustang you are talking about with a 618 cubic inch engine (2.2 times the size of a stock gt mustang)and a supercharger will easily produce the necessary 686.8 horses..let's imagine that you're weights were accurate...and we will assume that this upgraded mustang puts out just as many horses per cubic inch as the stock one does (1.14) then at 618 cubic inches it will put out 703.8 horses. this is after ignoring the fact that the upgraded mustang you mentioned has forced induction..since forced induction commonly upgrades power by 35% then the mustang would have 950.13 horses. come on now the v8 is OBVIOUSLY better!
