Subject: More power for the 5.9

Well I've pretty much chosen a 5.9 for the engine so now I need to know a few things about it.

Are there any common problems I need to watch out for?

What kind of fuel mileage are you guys getting with these engines with a 4x4?

How do I go about getting more power out of this thing? I'm not talking about intake and exhaust stuff here, more along the lines of what superchargers are available for it. And what kind of power gain people are seeing from them. I'd like to see what actual people who have bought them are getting out of them rather than going by manufacturers specs.

It'll probably be a while before I get one but it all factors in with my decision making process.

Thanks

hey man.....I've got a Vortech supercharger on my 5.9. It claims to add 95 hp and I believe it. It kicks in around 3500 RPMs. There are a few companies that make a s/c for the 5.9s (Paxton, powerdyne, Vortech, Kenne Belle) I've heard horror stories about Powerdyne. I thinkk Vortech is the way to go if u want it supecharged....well, thats just my 2 cents

I have 30,000 miles on my Powerdyne without a single problem other than finding out that cheap belts gets you alot of slip. It does have it's share of problems, but then again if you search around you will find that all of them had thier share. Personaly I would go with ProCharger because of their kits that they have, inner cooler for the main reason. But the price is adjusted. If you want cheap power then Powerdyne is very hard to beat, seems as though there are alot of used ones out there cheap, keep in mind that when they do eat it it's about $600 to have it overhauld by Powerdyne. Anyways, from a research perspective and Powerdyne user, they all have pro's and cons, I hope this helps

There is a plethora of old fashioned go fast parts for the 5.9 so don't worry about needing that S/C right off the bat.

Gas mileage? that is like asking a Viper owner about their city economy. Well, you asked and here it is. 5.9L QC 4x4 = 10.5 city and 14.8 highway. that is with a heavy foot which you will have with a 5.9L. There is no other way to drive it!!!!

I'll second what EyeTrip said. I only have about 10,000 on my Powerdyne though. The only problem I had was with the Keg blowing the plenum gasket out, got a M-1 and took care of the problem.

Hey Lew...what did you think about the Gibson headers and cat-back exhaust. I am thinking about it...but haven't had anyone to ask if they liked it.
