Woodie, sorry about that. I had just gottten off the phone with the mortgage company and they said I owe $750.00 on the escrow. You took the hit.

I'm always interested in helping, so you'll have to relay some details. What was your oil change interval? Did your engine overheat at anytime? How did the oil pressure gauge read before this happened?

I still DON'T see the problem with traffic, and a manual-in traffic!

I have a 5spd manual, in HOUSTON, TX. There may be worse traffic and traffic jams than Houston, but NOT many.

Big deal, you usually leave it in just one gear, going slow, etc. the 4.7, esp with the HO cams, has plenty of torque to leave it in second or third, and roll along slow. And oh nooooo, you may have to depress and let out the clutch once in a while! oh no.

It seems, every time a 4.7er wished he really had the manual, they have to talk about how they're no good in traffic-WRONG, too bad you didn't order yours with it.

And, how many of the 'oh, it's no good in traffic people, CAN'T EVEN DRIVE A STANDARD ANYWAY?

It's really so bad, it shifts when I WANT IT to, imagine that. Also noted is the stock higher speed limiter!-117, found easy in the right road conditions!

i for one can drive a manual and i think we didn't get one because our dealership didn't have any on the lot and wasn't expecting to get any dakotas with manuals. i know you can order them but this way was cheaper for me

Everything I wanted, I ordered, AT INVOICE, and was out the door. It's hard to get a better deal than that.

I have heard of some even giving up to $300 UNDER invoice.

I'm glad you settled for what you wanted.

I got the manual because I was sick of the autos in my last few cars. Dealer didn't have any, but found one and shipped it up in two days time, plus I got a slight discount because no one wanted the manual ;)

Bah, it's not hard to drive and hold a coke... now, driving while holding a coke and eating a Big Mac? That takes skill... and I can do it, so... the rest of you all suck :D

Besides, all I hear about on here is how the automatic tranny breaks down a lot and just seems to shift whenever it feels like it. But if you don't really like sticks, I wouldn't get one just because it's cheaper. Only get the stick if you like to have that much more control.

20 rwhp sorry squeek squeek raising the bull$hit flag on that one from the numbers thats abuot a 10 to 15 % parasitic power loss on top of the 15 to 20 % lost thru the drive train any way, if your calculations are correct which i doubt then the manual trans dak would blow the doors off the auto and i dont think anyone is buying into that one

I got the 4.7 auto because it felt quicker than the R/T's I drove. Not trying to start any arguements, might have just been the ones I drove. I prefer the auto because of stop and go traffic and it's easier at towing up boat ramps. I'll admit I'm getting older though, and a few years ago would not have had the auto. I do envy the mileage I see some people with 5 speeds post, so there must be something to that parasitic loss. Beautiful trucks but they are thirsty!

I just purchased a 2002 CC 4x4 Dakota SXT with a 3.9 and an Auto Trans in Aug 2002, and I really like it. It was terrible for the first few thousand miles...throttle response anyway...then it picked up a bit. I now have 10,700 miles on it. I got the SXT because it was what I could afford. I drove the 4.7 with 5spd Auto and wasn't overly impressed. I did always like the 5.9 though, I used to have that in my last dakota I bought used, it was a 1998 with Auto Trans.
