 Subject: Best way to spend $1000

I have been thinking about the best and first mods to start out with. I already have a catback and I would like to be as fast as possible with $1000 to start. I was thinking about a cam, M1, TB and RR's. Also if I can afford it, I will get some of those gaskets that will help hold up while under a lot of boost. What do you guys suggest? Oh and by the way, how does a "turtle" help?

My recommendations:
K&N Intake
Improved Throttle Body
M1 2bbl w/Ex Large "Turtle"
1.7r Roller Rockers
I would recommend holding off on doing cam/1.6 rockers until you are ready to do an entire package of heads/cam/rockers so they're set to match each other. You should also look into the B&G PCM flash.

Get yourself a 360 Block...take it to a machine shop and have them bore it out to a 408....use rest of money for an engine stand. Build it up from there. Have fun.

Down payment on a new supercharger.
Best re-sale item, Best bang for the Buck, quickest real mod to uninstall if you want to trade or sell the truck. Try taking out a cam or heads :)

He said to start ... hence the purchase of an engine stand. Otherwise, put that $1000 in the bank to save up for a 408 from KRC.
As he said, "I would like to be as fast as possible with $1000 to start"..."hold up while under a lot of boost", so we are talking about lots of changes to the bottom end to handle it....pistons for one and all that should go with it. Why give the man grey hairs piece-mailing it together. Realizing the goal is one thing but how to execute towards that goal is yet another.
All comes down to two things as many things in life do as well...

I was thinking about the K&N intake but doesn't a cold air intake come with a supercharger? I am trying to naturally aspirate this engine as much as I can without "NOS". Then I will supercharge it with 8-10 lbs. of boost. Sincity said something about cam/heads/rockers. That would be about $2000 wouldn't it? My engine is pretty new and I really don't wanna turn it into a 408 and the M1 is a must it seems like. My whole thought process was if I went into the engine first, then I could do all the bolt ons last. Thanks for the advice guys. More suggestions would be much appreciated. Whats the deal with the turtle?

If your considering boost in the future you might consider spending your $1000 on a good stand-alone engine management computer. you get a good kick outa that untill you could afford a SC or engine build-up

I'd go for the M1 , good Headers , 52mm TB , and a 14x3 Open Element air cleaner - that should pretty much eat up $1,000 if you do the work yourself.

If you're planning to boost later on, a good combination to do now would be to get a throttle body, M1, and headers. If it's going to be awhile before the SC gets bolted on, a K&N intake would help out very much in the interim, even if it was just a homebrew kit. Then again if you got a good name-brand kit you could probably resell it at a decent price later when you get the blower.
Heads/Cam/Rockers helps a lot if you select a good combination that work together, but together they cost around $2000 plus labor, and they're generally considered to be mods you do after bolt-ons and not before. Generally speaking most combos are setup for higher-rev horsepower, most people who do heads/cam/rockers lose a bit off the bottom end and tend to require gears or stall to bring the truck back in line. Not a casual set of mods to do early on.

If I were you I'd do the first 3 steps listed now and do 4 and 5 at the same time. I don't know if you'd want to get the pc flashed now since you might want to get it done again after you get the cam. You would definitely need it done again if you get a SC. If you could do the 1-3"A" steps you could get them all done for a total of about $1100.
