I have a 2000 Dakota 4.7L with the 45RFE Tranny and lately, specially when days got colder(between 40-70F)the Over Drive takes some time to kick in in the mornings or pretty much kicks in when the engine reaches normal temp.Does anyone knows why? or has anyone has had this problem?. It just hit 35,000 miles a couple of days ago so I already replaced the oil and filters in the tranny.

P.S. Yes! started doing it even before changing the oil and filters

that is normanl. The thing does that so your engine runs a bit quicker to warm it up faster.

Thank You! LKJ for the info. I feel some relief now. I was worry that the only out of space tranny that even dodge techs would be forbidden to lay hands on would start to mess up. Now I can sleep better.
Thanks again!!

Keep in mind also that if you run a 180 T-stat the trans oil takes longer to heat up.. But my trans does the same thing, i have two Daks both with the 45RFE .

Beatiful!! Kevster
Just what I was waiting for. Someone to support LKJ statement. Now I'm completely relieved. Not that I didn't believed LKJ but just to get reasurance. and yes I do have a 180F stat. is just that like I said before, temps down here are usually above 100F so tranny oil never got to be that cold to do that. Thank you guys!!
This site is so succesful because of guys like you.
