I recently got a 1997 5.2 v8 dakota 4x4 and I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on some relatively simple and inexpensive (the marines don't pay me much) things I can do to increase my horsepower and fuel efficiency. Also, if you can tell me about what it may cost and if its something I can do myself.

Air In. Air Out. Free breathing air filter such as K&N. Free flowing muffler, or if you can afford it a cat back exhaust system. Make sure your ignition components are in good shape. That should get you started for not too much money. Semper Fi!

Homebrew cold air intake, about $20 will add H.P. but lower Gas milage. Thanks for fighting for our country.

Good set of plugs and wires, I like Bosch plugs myself. I've run MSD wires. I just bought a set of Taylor's for a new project. New cap & rotor with brass contacts, you can get those at NAPA.

Home-made air intake is relatively cheap and easy. You can get a better muffler, I like Flowmaster, welded in for under $100 easy.

Have fun with your truck. God bless for protecting out country.
