it should be under warranty, i asked my friend about it he said its a common sensor to fail with a dodge transmission...but it might not be the problem, if it's free than its worth a shot...

I had this problem. I thought the transmission was fried and my truck (2000 Quad Cab 360) was 4000 miles out of warranty. I took it to a Dodge dealership and they told me I needed a $4500 transmission. I told them to !@#$ themselves. I then took it to a shop in town and they replaced some sensor. Cost about 100 bucks. My Dad's Durango had the same problem. I'll bet that's it that sensor thing that has gone bad and your tranny is in "fail safe" where it is stuck in 1st gear.

sAME THING STARTED ON MY 02' DAKOTA 5.9 AND AFTER HAVING DIAGNOSTICS RUN AT LOCAL SHOP, THEY THINK IT IS THE GOVERNOR PRESSURE SENSOR ALSO. THEY HAVE TO TALK TO DEALER TO GET PART TOMORROW SO I SHOULD KNOW FOR SURE. DIAGNOSTIC CODES WERE:

P1762 (M) Governor Pressure Sen Offset Volts Too Low Or High Sensor input greater or less than calibration for 3 consecutive Neutral/Park occurances. (4-speed auto. Trans. Only)

AND

P1757 GOV Pressure Not Equal To Target @ 15-20 PSI The requested pressure and the actual pressure are not within a tolerance band for the Governor Control System which is used to regulate governor pressure to control shifts for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear. (Zero Pressure Malfunction)

I have a 2002 5.9 R/T with 31,900 miles and when floored it will not shift out of first gear. It's as if it hits a rev limiter and will not shift. I have to back off and eventually it will shift into the next gear. I have no engine codes at this time either.

My problem sounds JUST like a lot of other threads I've read. My Dodge dealership here is really terrible, so I will have to print this thread so they will at least see I'm not the only one with the problem. It's April 2004, anyone with updated info please post. Thank you!

Replacing the GPS - governor pressure solenoid fixed the problem for me. Dodge dealer did it and didn't seem at all surprised about it. Seems to be a pretty common occurence with this transmission.

The problem with it not shifting out of first is because the rev limiter of the truck is to close to the shift point out of first and wide open throttle. My truck has the same problem. With the other problem their is a cheap sensor that has gone bad.

Had the same problem on my sons 2000 5.9 r/t. It would not shift out of 1st but hit the revlimiter when the pedal was to the floor. Took it to my local transmission shop. They diagnosed and adjusted the TV cable for $25. It fixed the problem and it shifts fine now.
